Root797763y@AvatarOfKaine I’ve had very little success with lutris. I mostly just use proton.
But apart from emulation/stubbing/etc., there has been considerably more native Linux support recently. I like the trend. -
Tonnoman6223yThe new proton shit should be big, because they are adding anti cheat support. When that happens, I feel like it you have good hardware you should be able to run a lot of stuff through proton

This is like the ongoing complaint that Linux desktops are unstable, the implication being that they never will become stable. Yeah, sometime they break, but it's increasingly rare. Linux gaming is still shit, but it's much, much better than it used to be. I'm confident that excluding the very realistic possibility of sabotage the user experience in both fields should be at least as good as Windows in 10 years, keeping in mind that it can easily take years for a kernel patch to reach the users if it isn't useful on servers (the main market).
-
Also the fact that the new steam deck have a linux based OS might be a driver for steam to work more and more on proton
I think Linux gaming will keep become nicer and nicer as @Root said -
@lbfalvy no its not that
its that games arent really written for linux
no if they run they run fine nowadays -
That's not linux's fault. It's game Dev companiea that refuse to invest in Linux compatibility with at least low budget games.
-
@AvatarOfKaine When I say Linux gaming sucks, I mean the social aspect. If a random friend of mine suggests to play together, chances are most of the games they like don't run on Linux at all. Plenty of games work fine, and plenty more I can get to run with an hour of tinkering, but the majority by count doesn't.

@lbfalvy you are very precise i notice, homo-lorens :P about everything. deep clarification.
-
Triple A's rarely invest to put something on linux and most of the time it just happened to work so they claim that market as well, which is sad
But on the bright side, the indies are puting more and more games out on tuxed desktops which in my opinion are more worthy of dev comunities atention than money-grabbers multi-million dollars cyperpukes -
@KennyTheBard ive seen limited indie games.
honestly most games are dissapointing of late.
lots of shootem ups -
@AvatarOfKaine Well, we are at a point where there are hundreds of games launched every day. Most are bound to be at most meh. But there are definitely gems around.
If you are interested, i can give you a few suggestions. I played my fair share of indies in the last few years -
@AvatarOfKaine here we goooo
Robo Quest was in early access last time i played but the gameplay loop was solid even then. It's a rogue-lite movement shooter with cool guns (not as cool enter the gungeon, but its 3D so there is a bit harder to go wild and keep the screen clean)
Flotsam is a nice base builder inspired by the theme of the movie Waterworld (not 100% if officially, but the theme is there) with a nice gameplay and quite polished aesthetics
The Survivalists is a 2D survive game where (with online co-op!) you can use monkeys to imitate your actions and help you gather, craft and build stuff. Its quite new and i played it for just a bit, but it's nice and has a lot of potential
Slasher's Keep is a nice dungeon crawler rogue-lite/like (depends of you use a feature or not) that emulates very nicely the aesthetics of old school 3Dish games such as Wolfenstein and Doom
Turmoil is already 5 years old but it's simple, catchy 2D game about extracting oil from the ground. -
@KennyTheBard simcity cities of tommorrow is addictive. :( and it gets boring !
I hate the continued deficiency of linux at gaming !
