My company will change the VCS to git. Now the though part is: GitHub or GitLab?

Definitely gitlab for anything professional. Especially for devops and workflow

Azure devops, we used it in my 3 jobs.

Currently using gitlab, I find it much harder to work with.

    +1 GitLab

    gitlab, selfhosted. period.

You know that your choices are basically unlimited right - you don't just have to pick ones that have git in the name?

    Github for pet projects/open source.
Gitlab for full scale work. Self hosted gitlab runners are awesome.
Bitbucket I would not recommend even to my enemies.
    Azure is Microsoft's poo https://wiz.io/blog/...

    So, gitlab fuck yeah!

@AlmondSauce of course, but these are (arguably) the most popular and since we have very limited resources for supporting it (i.e. sysadmins), we need a product that's well supported. Gitea is too "risky" is that sense and I haven't heard anything good about Atlassian lately.

@saucyatom Sorry, my bad sense of humour 😁

Used to use Atlassian at my last place and found it fine fwiw - we use GitHub here and it's fine functionality wise, but way more unreliable. Seems to go through really unreliable periods once in a while.

@saucyatom fwiw I'd rather have a service that recovers fast when disaster strikes, than one that hasn't had a disaster yet. Atlassian had some problems, but we were up and running the day after where i work at least.

    @ArcaneEye Curious.

I haven't worked intensely with other tools but I quite literal want to burn Bamboo down every time I have to work with it...

Any reference material or stuff you used?

Would be glad to hear from ya. Thx.

@nibor +1 for ADO, since we switched we're not looking back, everyone is so happy to have everything in one place with a single account

@ostream how exactly it suck? Please show us some real world example... Yeah it really sucks that gave you free private repos, ci/cd tools and codespaces

@ostream I'm not debating with a linux fanboy/ms hater that cannot provide any real reason, but speak only because of his hate... Funny you're blaming yaml, ms always provided a ui tool for ci/cd pipelines with ADO, but devs wanted something like yaml to feel cooler.

    P. S.
I'm just moking scroogle motto with my nickname

@ostream unfortunately I don't work for them... Still you didn't provide any valid real reason, you just like shit on them because is cool, and here on devrant you get ++ if you shit on ms. Bye

@ostream i missed your first comment, because you write 3 comments instead of one. Ado is azure dev ops. If you didn't get paid I understand you hunger, but it doesn't means that everything and everyone there is a shit, could hapen for several different reasons and could happen everywhere (not saying that's fine)

@ostream that's another story, but unfortunately it's not true only for huge corporations, but basically for 90% of things that involves money
