FYI: Oracle Cloud has 2 servers "always free". Probably useful for some of you. Personal projects n such.

Rant: I've just submitted a customer support ticket coz the sign up isn't working for me.

"Always free" until they decide otherwise.

Great for playing around with, but I'd caution against anyone using it for anything even vaguely important.

Yeah. Then move to google's free compute engine instance.

@TheKaerlisK and I did a project on that.

But do you need to give them your credit card information before they give you this "free" product?
  • 2
@nitnip Yes, but the credit card is removed from the account and you cannot "buy" anything until you explicitly "upgrade" the account.

Also if you like spark or want to explore big data: databricks offers a community cluster for free, storage and all.

Actually built our poc using that 😊

@nitnip as mentioned, they need card to confirm identity, it's not used for your account.

Into the trash it goes then.

@nitnip databricks does not require a credit card btw

Although worth reading the data bricks terms, the free community edition "you should have no expectations of privacy regarding the data you submit". Trade off I guess.
