We're just seeing the same thing that happened to desktop software happen on mobile. There used to be teams of people getting games small enough to fit on a floppy or two, then a CD, then a DVD. For mobile there wasn't a hard limit, but still a soft one on the basis most devices might have only had a few hundred MB of storage total.
These days everything's delivered over wifi, and storage is cheap or plentiful - so no-one bothers to put the time, effort & money into seeing where they can save space. -
@AlmondSauce aren't budget phones very storage limited still these days? Especially because they come with bloat you can't (easily) uninstall.
-
@electrineer I just got a 2021 moto g stylus for $250. 128GB internal storage.
Then the bastards dropped the price $50. So its $200 now.
I haven't checked it out yet. Not sure on bloat. -
@Demolishun Motorola should be very clean. I would consider that price range mid-range.
-
@electrineer Even the phones just over the $100 these days have "enough" storage. 32GB seems like a minimum.
-
620hun81903yBecause storage is no longer a concern, at least not as much as it used to be. I’m casually walking around with over 128 gigs, and at home I have something like 25 teras. 10 years ago my flat would’ve been considered a data centre.
-
donuts236783y@Oktokolo but the phone display doesn't have enough pixels to display them so what's the point?
-
donuts236783y@620hun hm... Still take time to download and honestly just to start the game...
I ended up ditching all of them after 5mins max after going thru the tutorial...
Another game with tons of gatchas and customisations....
Seriously mobile games these days are just money grabs... I guess just like their storage... -
@donuts
If your phone doesn't has at least full HD - then you have no use for such "games" anyway... -
@donuts most mobile games are designed to maximise revenue, not gamer satisfaction.
-
620hun81903y@donuts most games don’t even download on data. But let’s be real, how often do you need to download or update a game?
-
donuts236783y@620hun every day? Used to okay Need for speed, the amount of data downloaded at startup are like 500mb a month...
App store updates, 1gb+ every few months -
@electrineer Huh, I thought mid range was like $500 now. I mean we have ridiculous $1200 iShits now.
-
@donuts it animates cards… cards hit enemy portrait and there is generic hit animation. But not card specific.
-
@Demolishun obviously it is not solitaire but cards are not 4k images also. I wish there was a storage ratio so we can know which guys to blame. Animation(so few), resources etc.
-
@eerie-binomial most mobile games I've seen are addictive, not fun. If by satisfaction you mean satisfying the addiction, then max revenue and satisfaction can be closely related. But if you want the game to be fun, it's often one or the other.
-
@aviophile Sounds like they had a huge budget for artwork vs 3d models or something. I have been looking into procedural generation of content for stuff I want to create because I don't have any budget for artwork.
-
i blame it on bloated frameworks used to spare development time, cause the employers won't afford the time to actually code something good 🙄
Mobile... Anime games take 2-3gb of data these days... Wtf....
No wonder need larger storage... But seriously...
Guess apps are no different... Why the fuck does a minute app like Facebook need 300mb to install... Even with all the spyware....
