I have started to feel like clean code, domain boundaries, design principles, automation, testing and peer reviews are fake.

I can't actually believe anyone is doing them anymore. They don't seem hard, but everywhere I go people argue. I am even beginning to believe that this stuff is not correct anymore because of the amount of push back in every company I have worked at.

Maybe the lesson is don't do anything that makes waves, just follow along whether it seems shit or not.

End of year / beginning of new year is good for finding new job.

@johnmelodyme I read them. To me it is not acceptable. The code is shit, your boss is shit.

But I have never worked anywhere that was not shit. I don't believe in trying anymore as the best case you silently make things better but no-one notices so your boss gets the benefits, or people push back and stuff like this happens. It is better to let things be shit.

@Crost ha. I had the same feeling at my first company. They were doing most stuff wrong and were clearly following anti patterns. The kind of code that you wouldn't write as your first draft after GoF book came out. That code was in production.

I realized that the reality is most people are there for the buck and the perks. Nothing wrong with it but if you want clean code you have to move to a place where it matters. It could be within the company in the core teams which decide/provide the tools, frameworks, guidelines or it could be in a company which provides the tools to your company.

So while clean code principles are valid, you are more likely to encounter violations that rely on manpower than software design. But the reason those places can. function with any sanity is because they rely on the guarantees provided by software that employs clean code.

@johnmelodyme you're situation is difficult right now. You rightfully believe that you are wronged. You deserve better.

But trust me, these people are not worth your mental stress. You must resist the urge to expend mental effort on them via expressions of anger and disgust. You are only hurting yourself. You need to compartmentalize and push yourself to find a job.

That said, everyone has their own process so I'm apologize in advance if I'm overreaching here.
