BrianK8438yForget one semicolon and they make your life a hell. I agree with you. I have no clue why that is. Maybe they have lots of time to answer but think you should feel special or something?

doz874308yIts just what the culture has become. It shouldn't be like that but I find that the majority of devs I have met or worked with are generally arrogant and full of themselves.
I also think platforms like that breed a certain kind of attitude and attract a certain kind of personality, unfortunately it's usually a smartarse arrogant shit head kind that get off on belittling others and showing off even though most of the time they end up being proven wrong. Those people are usually very sad people and use the platform to prop themselves up.
Saying that though, I have met/seen some very helpful and awesome devs on SO, they are just definitely in the minority. -
While nerds like us might be intellectually gifted, we sometimes also end up being social disasters and completely shortsighted once blessed with a modicum of power/control. Sprinkle in anonymity and enjoy being a complete sundried turd.

Benby118y@NaughtyProwler I think this is it. That and it tends to spread. "No one is nice to me so why should I be nice to them?"

A lot of devs grow up as nerdy kids and are subjected to being bullied in school. They eventually band together with the other weird kids and create their own echo chamber and that's where they become comfortable.
So when they then have to go outside that comfort zone their defense mechanisms kick in and they turn into giant twatwaffles -
@NaughtyProwler introverted social butterfly here. Introverted but I have great people skills for whatever ungodly reason.
Anyway, the hardest part of my interviews, jobs, etc is interacting with other introverts.
That's when I started my rule of always greeting people and asking about their day. Acknowledge that they're a person before all else. Eventually it'll get to that point where you won't be able to shut them up and you'll regret it, but not in a bad way.
At the end of the day, most loners and introverts just need a friend. Not one that imposes themselves on the friendship. But one that is there when they need someone. -
unjx20188yEngineering is always critical, like any science should be. But I have to agree...ass overflow does seem to have a disproportionate amount of academic belligerence...yet I still use it and need it.

I once rejected an answer from a 40k+ guy for perfectly fine reasons, and got called a "fucking low rep".

It's all about the points! They gotta get the points, even if that means pissing off other members.
Why are there so many rude cunts on stack overflow?
