Found a IGEL UD3 M350C Thin Client Workspace Edition in a yard sale the pother day. The thing has awesome specs but comes with the IGEL OS which sucks. Anybody used one of these before? If I can get it to use a different OS than the IGEL one it'd be great

8 GB hdd, you should be able to fit a minimal Linux no problem.

    Ubuntu might be too big.

@Nihil75 That makes sense, I'll skip Ubuntu then. I've been trying to figure out how to replace the current OS with something else. I can't even find out how to make it boot from a USB

Try mint. It works well on lower specd systems and has a small footprint.

Otherwise you're going to need to install something like Debian or Arch and install your own DE.

@sariel mint sounds awesome! If u guys have any ideas on how I would actually be able to install mint onto the device, that’d be incredibly helpful

@DeepHotel first thing, download Lili to image a distro to a USB.

Plug it in and try to boot from it.

If you can boot from it, should be good to go.

YMMV depending on lots of hardware support issues though.

Just a quick Google tells me it's not going to go quietly into the night.

Clear indicators are the lack of Reddit and stack results returned. I have been surprised though. Keeping the hardware packed away for another year or two may yield results, but if you're feeling adventurous you can blaze your own trail and help others like yourself in the future.

If you can't boot from usb it would be difficult..

If you can't access BIOS and set boot order - perhaps it would boot from external usb cd-rom drive.

If not, perhaps there's a serial UART port? not easy to use.

Mint might fit but it's Ubuntu based. I think it takes 3-4GB space. But I like it a lot.

Maybe Arch you'll be able to get a smaller footprint, but will be difficult to setup and maintain.

Enable usb boot from bios and probably disable secure boot
