35y/o and a child (well, 2 soon), experienced as an integration dev (not my dream job tho), scripted a lot as a devops engineer (bash, py).

My heart says "jump deeper into devops and/or py", but my imposter syndrome infested brain says it might be too late and that after 10 years in IT it's time to navigate more into management/architect role (mostly because I've seen a lot of people around me follow this path).

Thoughts?

Do what you want to do, not what convention says you should do

I worked with a guy. Was early 50s. He came from dev/ops. Sat in a management position for 3 years.

He hated it. Eventually left the position for a dev/ops position that was made specifically for him. He absolutely loved it.

Now he's in his early 60s. Just took a new position for dev/ops at a cutting-edge AI driven product straight out of the valley backed by a billion dollar industry. He's working on NASA level shit that's going to change the world in a few decades.

My point is, follow your dream. Do what's best for you, don't let someone else push you into planned obsolescence.
