Theory: zoomers are actually just boomers who come generationally full circle

Source: I work with clowns in their early 20s and the fact that they are young and were essentially born into tech and had it their whole lives literally has not contributed anything towards their understanding of basic tech concepts - if anything, it has made them more clueless.

The good news: now I know whatever is invented in the future, whatever tech comes to be, the next generation of clowns will always have many jobs to offer me.

I think it's better to think about this in 2 dimensions, where on one axis is the generation line, which defines the environment / time period that the person grows up and the other axis is their intelligence.

No matter the generation, you are going to have ignorant short-sighted clowns, but as both generation and intelligence increases they are more likely to take advantage of the generation gap between them and their peers or even past or future people.

so a smart tech-y person from 1990 is going to have much better tech skills than an idiot from 2022, but a smart tech-y person from 2022 is still going to have better tech skills than a smart tech-y person from 1990.

I mean yeah, the 1990 guy probably knows a lot of low level stuff, but the 2022 guy had more access to knowledge and newer paradigms over-all, so he's going to outperform in more fields.

also here I say "intelligence" but really that's too much of an umbrella term, I just can't think of a better one now :c

I'm not even going to pretend that it's a close and shut case though. It's just somewhat my feelings about the generations gap. Really I'd rather be friends with idiots from 2022 than idiots from 1990, cause you can only imagine what kind of people those were.

But yeah, I don't know. The generation labels mean very little to me. You can see awesome boomers, great millenials and retarded zoomers, but also horrible boomers, retarded millenials and awesome zoomers... It's more about the people than the generation is what I'm trying to say. It definitely affects their skill sets and perception of the world, but it's overall their personality or genetics or whatever you want to call it that decides how they carry themselves yknow?

Is there a rapid demographic growth introduced with zoomers?

I personally think it’s the most appropriate term.
One can be intelligent and idiotic at the same time. Those are the people that cause most harm whether it be in tech or anywhere else

I feel the word "wisdom" already implies that the person already acquired knowledge and knows how to use it well or 'wisely', but it doesn't quite target the question of why this person is able to acquire the knowledge so readily where some others seem to remain almost blank slates for their entire lives.

I think you're close though. It's something like the combination of intelligence AND wisdom.

I still personally believe that people are genetically predisposed for those two attributes, but then they are also greatly affected by their environment (parents, school, friends) whether they are able to develop both of those attributes further if they have them already. Something like that

This rings so true. As someone in my early thirties, I have used MS-DOS, Windows 3.1 up to Windows 11. These experiences somehow made me the most tech savvy guy in the company. The Gen-Z (zoomers) are as bad as boomers when it comes to operating system / computer technology.

Skipping straight to android phone since birth, and staring at phones most of their life, instead of PC, they have no clue at all about what are shortcut files, what is a root directory, what is registry, what are services, how auto startup works, how to add network drives or network printers.

I am pretty there are clever ones out there, so please don't be offended. It's just that the most zoomers in my life are as bad as boomers when it comes to tech.

@Gazotey easy - knowledge of these concepts is no longer required to use a computer, so they don't learn them.

not to mention most of them are growing up with a mobile. why would you need to know there's internal memory\DCIM, when you access all your photos via "gallery" app. Most folks does not even have a file manager on their phone and they don't feel like they're missing out.

@qwwerty I hate gallery apps, probably because I'm thinking folders then. I get not being used to it, but not even understanding the concept? My mind is kinda blown.
