!rant, opinion/discussion

What are your thoughts or experiences with Ruby on Rails? Does it have a bright future?
I'm currently only using PHP for server-side web stuff, but looking for ideas for more beautiful languages.
I know C#, but because 95% of web servers I work on are Linux based, it's (as far as I currently know) not an option. Or is ASP.NET Core somewhat supported on non-root (basic hosting) linux servers?

You should be able to make a self-contained sore with .net core, you'll only need root to install and configure things, but a lot should be root free. If there sender is already configured and you make it self-contained, you shouldn't need root for anything from what I can tell.

I have used rails for a couple of years and I like it. At this point I am using it to just build apis because I have been using front end libraries like react.

There is also Django which is in python if you're looking for frameworks that run easily on Linux.

RoR are simple to code with. They do everything for you .

I've been looking into this same thing. RoR has a smaller market share but if you're building your own stuff then it's pretty sweet to throw something together quickly. It has a nice syntax too. Oh and of note is Crystal which is ruby but compiled and faster. Ruby is the nicest language of the ones I'm listing in my opinion.

Python has far more market share and has Django. I think the difficulty is similar on both.

I think, though, that JavaScript is all the rage at the moment. Node.js seems to be picking up in popularity by leaps and bounds. But like everything in this industry, everything will follow a hype cycle so flip a coin and I'm sure you'll have work no matter what you do.

Yes, yes, yes use rails!!! It's practically orgasmic coming from php or even the newer js frameworks. Don't believe the hype, Rails gets shit done and gets it done elegantly and even your grandma can read the code.

Thank you all for these helpful comments! <3
I will definitely try RoR out and then rant about it ;)
