I laughed at how in the movies hacking is portrayed as some person clicking a lot buttons really quickly in a very flashy UI. There's a picture of America and sometimes there's a 3d model rotating for no good reason or a bunch of random numbers floating across the screen. They use random hacking related terms like: backdoor, DDoS...etc in their sentences.

At least they did their research...

So true! And the fuckin noise computers make on TV! Why would you need to listen that a process is running? Why would someone bother programming such audio feedback!

    PS: Designated Survivor

@A00012AX77362 It's mostly just social engineering

I like how Mr. Robot portrays hackers. Never cringed.

@TrueFurby was definitely the best attempt on TV so far. Managed to keep the flair of a semi-supernatural underworld, while trying to ground the IT stuff in some reality.

Some nice little easter eggs in it for techies too.

(and the reznoresque soundtrack is also awesome)

You to can hack like Hollywood, google "geek typer" :D

Someone should make a movie that is all about searching for the backdoor of a big corrupted corporation that hackers always have been wanting to hack.

It could make for an interesting story plot.

As an engineer in machine vision, it makes me smile how they can make 4k images out of the low resolution images of traffic webcams.

Technology in tv shows is often bullshit. And i love how they program stuff and the guy is typing fast because he has 35 seconds until the building expodes and he compiles and 3..2..1...SAVED THE DAY!

    Me in that situation:
"Can you make a program that saves the people from the bomb? "
"Sure, If the API is good i have a prototype in two days."

    BOOOOM DEAD PEOPLE!

@Bernarnold I was thinking of adding a love story but that works too.

Just don't marry the two main characters. Too stereotypical...

My favorite has always been the portrayal in the movie Hackers.
    Literally 'cyber surfing'

    @tisaconundrum
That's just a small part of it though.. Initial System/Host penetration maybe, most of the time it's misconfiguration or something silly however, no?

@umnikos The Golden Girls (but they're a young group of disillusioned coders that follow an ethos not many of them are entirely sure about)

I don't think that they do any kind of research unless he is Christopher Nolan. There are plenty of sites on internet which generates dialogues in hacker lingo by using random hacking terms.
