last time i did, i had this conversation with my boss:
"the client is complaining that you don't work enough hours."
"... am I late on deliveries?"
"No."
"Is what i deliver bad?"
"No."
"So what's the problem?"
"... the client is complaining that you don't work enough hours."
"Do you remember when we talked before signing the contract and i repeatedly told you I need it to be part-time, otherwise i'm gonna have a mental breakdown, and you repeatedly told me that you understand, and that it's ok?"
"Yes..."
"So what am I supposed to do? Inflate the hours to make them happy?"
* shrug *
"... okay..."
and so from then on, i was inflating the hours. later, when the project kinda halfway crashed and burned, partly due to me having a mental breakdown since i was unable to just fudge it, so i actually tried working more, and the boss and client had a falling out, and the client started wanting justifications for various inflated timesheet entries, and the boss was asking me about them: -
"... do you remember our conversation about the client complaining that i don't work enough, and me asking you if should inflate the hours?"
"... yes... :/"
(the boss was great, though, he wasn't angry, he's not an asshole. the client was an angry asshole though. and i really did fuck up by having the breakdown too) -
oh and in different work years before that, where i was working from their office but was paid on hourly basis (per hours spent in the office), i made it clear and got an acknowledgment that it's okay that i will be leaving the office when i have nothing more to do for the day, regardless of the time, because i'm mentally unable to pretend i'm working and be racking up salary for nothing.
three months later, the last day of my trial period, friday, i was fired via "oh keep the company laptop here when you leave".
i had to proactively go talk to the boss to check if i'm understanding correctly that i'm being fired, and when i asked why, the answer was "you kept leaving the office so soon so often" -

I have an incredibly hard time counting non-focus time as work hours, or stopping in the middle of building something. So. I tend to work myself to death, burn out, and just fall apart. ofc the company doesn’t give a shit, and management just starts yelling and threatening when my productivity falls, which naturally makes everything so much worse.
Guess where I am right now?
Ugh.
