Is there something that Windows can do but Linux can't?

    Yeah. It can break easily.

Sadly, a number of decent games.
    That's it.

Gaming, and a number of handy applications that only run on Mac or Windows. But if Windows games ran well on Linux, I'd never look back.

It can run Photoshop natively. It can run most games. Several business applications are written exclusively for it. Blu-Ray ripping utilities are written for it, and the keys database is easier to update/upload from Windows. Gaming hardware like Alienware or Razer is not fully compatible with Linux. BIOS flashing utilities are written for Windows.

Don't get me wrong, I love me my Linux. But it's not perfect; everything I mentioned above would need changed first.

@nik123 I've seen this a bunch but I never had any issues with my Nvidia GPU on my laptop, I'm wondering if getting Linux on my main PC may not be a good thing :/

Generally is easier to deploy a portable app in windows

@nik123 ah okay well glad I just use mint on my laptop for Android development lol, test it on my phone and just use the have Android studio and Firefox ... Nothing else.

Good thing you don't have any problems on desktop, eventually when I get around to backing up my stuff on desktop I'll give it a go.

    Thanks for the info.

Linux is great for scalable web app hosting. It runs node.js or php or Java and we don't need to worry about licensing costs blowing out. For desktop though good luck since most consumer software and hardware will only have support for Windows or Mac

Windows can crash for no fucking reason. #superPower

@srganiga I've only ever had BSODs for hardware failure or some sort of excessive software failure

@johnfocker if we dont buy this stuff they will never have an reason to make drivers.
  • 3
Yes, Windows does not have nano

@Archang3l And yet, on Windows 8/10 they've removed those epic BSODs. I miss 'em. At least you were given some meaningful explanation as to what event wrong.

@nik123 I run intel hd530 with 960m on a laptop. I haven't run into any problems. On either arch or manjaro. I use the Bumblebee driver

Linux can do everything that windows can do, because of WINE.
  • 2
@Numinex hah that reminds me of when on win7 I kept getting a BSOD and eventually ask on Tom's hardware, after getting the information and with help from someone experienced enough I found out it was because of a Bluetooth adapter I had that was plugged in the back. The drivers were causing issues :/

The odd thing was just unplugging the thing fixed it, which is odd since I still use it to this day

    @Doofitator nope.
if that is true, I should be able to run any native windows app.

@nik123 it works with TV or desktop screen. I have no issue with it...
I think that the drivers nowadays are more compatible.
