chadd1746317yI was 10 when I started seriously. Before that, I had done video editing.
I found some HTML in a kid's novel, described as "nerd stuff". I put down the book and went to try the code in Notepad. I never picked the book up again. -
I had my first course for MS-Dos command line when I was 11/12
Cause I was complaining to my parents that my brother uses codes so I can't play in the family 286... -
wizzzard8057yI wrote my first code when I followed some instructions from my Commodore 64 User's Guide (Chapter 6 - Introduction to Sprites) to make a balloon fly across the screen. This balloon:

First programming languages were Turbo Pascal, Visual Basic at first. Later Delphi, BlitzBasic and c++. Later in school Java, HTML and Javascript stuff too. At University still Java, SPS and c++. With my Masters degree C#, Golang. I think there will be more languages to come ^^ -
I'm 17 now, it's been maybe 1-3 years since I started with HTML now 🤔

2nd year (bachelor) of university I took numerical methods course which relied on MATLAB. During my 2 years of MSc I took more optional courses about modeling and plant design all of which relied on solid MATLAB skills. Last year (this one) a course used C++ as language for process modeling and now my thesis is a C++ project that will add into my research group's opensource framework for combustion systems simulations.

I was just thinking about this.
How old was everyone when they first go into IT? Something along the lines of when you wrote your first program or script, or when you first started a programming course, etc. And what was the reason?
I was 22. First proper start was through an Intro to Information Technology course as part of my current degree. I was working a dead-end, depressing callcentre job. I was thinking what my life was going to be like, so I made a concious decision to start my degree and make something of myself. It's, of course, a bit more detailed but I am more interested in what others have to share.
