My ideal dev job would be one where I don't get chewed out for using vim.

People actually use vim at my current job. Too bad I'm leaving next week, it'll be hard to find another team like that

@ocab19 if you miss it, get whatever popular IDE makes you look cool, and add the VIM plugin to it... you know, for the nostalgic value but without having to deal with opinions.

I'm actually jealous of solid Vim users. 👍🏼
Yes, I can exit haha.. I'm just not a power user.

@jmacmi2 I definitely do that whenever I have to use an IDE (java is super difficult to work with without one). But it's not for the nostalgic value, it's actually because I feel more comfortable moving around with the vim keys than using the mouse and arrow keys all the time.

    Haha ah ignore me then.

Yes, Java is super difficult to work with. Jetbrains are lifesavers.

Good stuff, personally, I never vimmed, but I can see the advantage to not shifting to mouse to navigate. I might learn vim just to see how it is.

In the mean time in IDEA, Webstorm and the likes I use ACEJump... tap ctrl+; and type a letter, it gives you the ability to jump around to any instance of that letter on the screen. It's pretty fun and fulfils that need for me on top of the project navigation features of the IDE core.
