Lucky me I started early on in life. 😂
My eyesight was so bad the doctor was amazed at the fact I had never worn glasses before I did. -
@jhh2450 my doctor nearly choked when I told her I started with bifocals as my first pair at 18 lol.
A previous job fucked my eyes over, hard, and essentially over exerted the muscles... -
I'm reaching a point where I cannot read without glasses :/ But luckily I can still see without them. I feel old
-
Bikonja23867yI have a weird situation - I see the computer screen just fine without glasses, but I have difficulty seeing distant things. With glasses it's more or less ok, but with contacts I see properly distant objects but looking at a screen makes me want to tear out my eyeballs...
And I cycle to work everyday so it's a bit impractical to wear glasses which is why I tried with contacts.
So far my solution is to just wing it without glasses or contacts since my vision is still not that bad, but I hate to think of what will happen when I can't see good enough to cycle without glasses or contacts... -
@Bikonja I think not wearing glasses/contact lenses makes your eyesight even worse (No idea how significant).
Also, according to a study mentioned in a SciShow episode, nearsightedness is closely related to how much you stay inside. Relatively recent study, but it got clear results if I recall correctly. -
sebh06025147y@Bikonja I wear both glasses and contacts. How is it impractical to wear glasses while cycling?
-
Bikonja23867y@sebh0602 they don't provide good protection from wind, rain, dust, sun, ...
Obviously you can get shaded prescription glasses and such and even proper cycling glasses don't protect 100%, but it's much better with cycling glasses. And I don't want the hassle of prescription cycling glasses. -
I don't think it's connected, but I think playing sports could keep your eyes healthy, cause good blood flow 🤷🏻
Just my 2 cents. -
@Bikonja from what I've learned from my eye doctors, this can cause your eyes to overwork, which then strains them and makes your prescription worse because your eyes lose their ability to adjust to different distances as they should. Just be careful
-
Bikonja23867y@SpectralKH @taylorviktorya I've heard that not wearing glasses/contacts makes your vision worse, but in my own experience it seems to be the opposite, wearing them makes my vision worse. I guess my eyes/brain get lazy and stop correcting for the incorrect vision. Granted, that puts more strain on my brain than wearing glasses/contacts but it's so much easier :)
-
@Bikonja I thought the same thing. The glasses I'm getting aren't even my full prescription because my eyes are apparently so fucked up my brain can't handle it right away.
-
I went to go buy my glasses today... most of the time, lenses can be done in an hour. My prescription is not one they can do in that time frame anymore. So I have to wait until the lenses are special ordered and get in. I'm going to remain blind forever at this rate...
-
Bikonja23867y@taylorviktorya sometimes I prefer not to see all the crappy things around me... At least you can enjoy that :)
Fingers crossed you get your glasses soon, though.

My vision has gotten so messed up, my reading glasses are now my distance glasses, and I need to wear them constantly until I get my bifocals.
It's only going to get worse with age in my chosen career... :(
