Advance Linux user, it not only can use the whole features of the terminal, It knows how to close Vim like a pro
-
@skprog no kidding, I have wish to go already full Linux but cant yet for compatibility reasons with some software you cant really Wine it .... also I dont have the space/money to afford some new HDDs yet to move my data
-
@gblues and if you can use Comic Sans for its edgy contrarian irony to season the whole deal

b3b340657yI personally wouldn't like windows people to change to Linux. If they want to OK. I switched half a year ago coz windoof can suck my dick (the complete installation got fucked up. Couldn't save any data). But please don't force them to switch. I would like the Linux community to stay as it is right now

@dontbeevil Not guaranteed. For example if you give another person their beloved Windows (which is currently dirt cheap btw.) you can spare your self from annoying questions.
-
@dontbeevil The image is intentionally exaggerated since it targets most sayings about Win XP.
Windows 10 works better but is a privacy nightmare and microsoft still sticks to their weired proprietary ways. (DirectX, Office, ...)
They only release their products for other platforms if they have no choice. (e.g. Office on Android) -
@dontbeevil If I were to write a Game I would choose Vulkan as an Low-Level-API.
But the problem here is that since a lot of game publishers are relying on DirectX 11/12 today it would be nice of them to publish DirectX for GPU-Driver-Makers so they could enable OSX and Linux to use Games with Direct X.
But if they would do it, they would take away a huge decisionmaker for Gamers: "I use Windows because I habe most Games and FPS on it."
If they truly "Love Linux" as it is often stated they would allow DirectX on other platforms so Linux/OSX-Users could play DirectX-Games nativly with no problems on their OS.
VSCode seems nice, but its only to get Developers to use their Products like UWP and NOT to help devs or contribute to FOSS like may devs believe.
Its just PR and to prove the opposite they could e.g.:
- publish DirectX (no reason not to do it)
- publish the Win32-API for Wine Devs (don't suspect that this will ever happen)
- Make UWP cross-platform (luckily not relevant) -
@dontbeevil I don't doubt that you can't write other things than for UWP.
But MS needed some reason for VS Code in the first place, which is beautifying their image and dragging devs into their Eco-System (Windows, Azure, UWP, ...).
To make that easier they did things like WSL. -
@hugh-mungus Yeah. The only thing thst could be pro-vscode is that it is somewhat performant.
But I don't care about this really.
I don't use Vim, but Nano (configs), Kate (Plain- & Log-files) and Atom (Python3, Web, NodeJS, ...).
The autocompletion for Python is good enough for me. It works well except for more complex and deep structures, but for that I have either the interactive python-shell or the docs of the lib. 😁
What DE do you use @hugh-mungus ? I use Plasma.
I have changed the Frame-Colors only for Atom to match the One-Dark-Theme and it looks freaking awesome.

@hugh-mungus That looks awsome!
I personally thought about using i3 myself, but I do not want today. It is definitevly on my to-do list.
I have also a laptop for school, which has Gnome3 on it and only software related to things in school to prevent distraction (except cli-tools 😉).
I recently have installed the Pop-Theme onto my Gnome-Shell and the Icons for my Plasna-Desktop. In my opinion that looks really nice.
I am also a heavy user of virtual desktops. On Gnome I use the dynamic amount with custom added Swipe-Gestures two switch between them (which was not easy to set up since Touchégg only worked with Xorg).
On my Tower-PC (Plasma5) I have 5 Desktops vertically aligned and use the Macro-Keys (M1-M5) to switch beween them.
I can't possibly think how I would life without virtual desktops. ❤️

Average linux developer: writes completely fast, optimized code that compiles the first time all via the terminal. He doesn't care.
Also average linux developer: decides to call it Winblows instead of Windows in an attempt to get more people to use linux. He feels like a genius.
