chadd1746317yI thought it was hilarious, and having an extension like this would genuinely make me laugh off my suicidal thoughts, which would actually help.
-
@nblackburn @tracktraps I know it's a bad joke and it should be taken more seriously but it's kinda hilarious that they made Clippy say that... That's the only "funny" part of the rant.
-
@Kamaropoulos No need to explain yourself, people are just being overly sensitive to something that was a satire of clippy's amazing ability to pop up at the worst of times.
-
@Kamaropoulos I'm relatively sure that Clippy doesn't usually say such things :) Clippy was actually always completely useless.
-
@nblackburn also, without wanting to insult anyone, I believe that people are being sensitive about this kind of stuff when it's not needed and when they have to they don't. A lot of people are reacting at a bad joke about suicide like it's the worst thing ever happened and at the same time they are pathetic viewers when many people give an end to their lives because of those people's actions (or, many times, inaction). I believe we should be more sensitive about this kind of thing when it's needed and not when bad things have already happened.
-
Fun fact: In German language versions Clippy was called "Karl Klammer" (Karl Staple).
-
@Kamaropoulos There is a wonderful thing call contexual awareness, something it seems some people need to read up on.
-
@nblackburn damn, this conversation got really deep... it's a good thing tho...

Suicide is indeed not something to joke about. It has happened to me twice: a person I've been talking with on the web for quite some time to start becoming more and more sad with all the stuff going on around them. And they were slowly starting to consider giving an end. It's not funny not knowing if you will be able to talk with them the next day. It's not funny not knowing if you'll be able to talk with them again at all. And in such cases distance doesn't help either, all you can do is try to help them think clearly and convince them otherwise. (the good thing is that in these two cases it worked and they're both alright. phew...)
So yeah, getting insulted by a joke about this isn't the way to go but instead we should try and help these people before it is too late. It's a fact that our sympathy won't be in much use for them after they're dead... -
Ezard19607yConversation is getting deep - meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out how pastry could be used...

brahn15747yI've had several unsuccessful and successful suicides in my family, and I find this joke hilarious!
I subscribe to two VERY important ideas:
1: The only things not worth joking about is the things that do not matter.
2: What doesn't kill you gives you a lot of unhealthy coping mechanisms and a really dark sense of humour.
I do understand that some people can't handle this kind of humour, but that does not mean you shouldn't make jokes.
If everyone stopped making jokes that could offend people there would be no humour left and life really wouldn't be worth it. -
Ok, for those who say that suicide isn't a joke, how does this actually affect you? If your life is so unstable right now that an internet image sends you into any form of unhappiness, the joke isn't the problem here.
