This is a question for any employers or whoever has an opinion, would you personally as a company hire somebody that was self taught, showed eagerness to learn, had little experience and no relevant qualifications.

I’m a self taught dev in a minefield of degree holders.
There’s no reason self taught devs can’t do the same job.

@C0D4 I’m on an apprenticeship, the only thing I worry about is my maths isn’t great, I have experience from the company I’m at now of course.

Stick there as long as possible, a few years of commercial experience will outweigh the piece of paper your missing after a while.

@C0D4 @ijava Two years in my case. Been programming since 2007 and I don’t have a CS/MIS degree.

@ijava just keep at it. learn as much as you can, preferably by doing. There's no better way of learning than some occasional fuckups. I dont have a degree, i started programming at 15, almost 20yrs ago. I sold my first software before going to the university. when i got there i did all the math classes (i like math), and left. they were only teaching fundamentals. Haskell,C,Prolog...
Today i have my own company and some of my best devs don't have a degree. Every single dev we hired with a degree had to learn a lot also. and they teach way better languages nowadays. But most companies are biased towards devs with degrees and don't give oportunities. You'll find yours!
