"matter of principle rather than cost"
    That seems spiteful

All right, I'm going to send google ads a huge bill for making me look at advertisements that don't make me buy.
  • 24
If companies do such things, their reputation should be non existent. So there will be no dev applying anymore. They literally screwed theirselfs.
  • 14
Some how this feels fake, but i could be wrong.

does that mean you can charge companies when the role ends up being totally different to the advertisement?
  • 7
    Matter of principle my ass
  • 15
Send them a cheque made out to "Suck my dick"
  • 14
Good business model. 😂 But the head developer is definitely underpaid.
  • 7
Probably the rules of the interview nobody reads were on the page or attached to the listing. They sure are covered, and you somehow agreed to it without knowing it.
  • 11
Well they really do insist time is money.
I wonder where in he world this sort of BS is legal? Seriously being charge for not meeting the requirements of a job 😂 I should start billing interns for wasting my time.
  • 5
@sam9669 wait... VCAT as in Vic Tribunal?
  • 5
@C0D4 it is not for not meeting the requirements but for bullshit in CV.
  • 4
    @afrometal same thing really.
  • 2
Did this happen to you? YIKES
  • 4
@C0D4 not really. If there would be truth in the CV they wouldn't even invite him because was not meeting the requirements. With BS in CV, he got invited and wasted their time.
  • 3
I didn't even know this was a thing lmao. How broke is this company to be charging interviewees money for interviewing. What the actual fuck. I seriously didn't know that this was actually a thing, never seen it happen before. And if it became so immediately obvious that one wasn't good at something, why continue wasting your time? My mind is blown right now.

@Alice I’m not disagreeing with you.
I’m just meaning that the CV stated he could do something when he couldn’t means YES he’s bullshitting if he stated he could use erlang, and YES he doesn’t meet the requirements because he doesn’t know erlang (same thing at the end of it)

I guess it’s a grey line for actually attempting to charge someone for overselling their experience and qualifications but isn’t that what the interview process is for? To weed out the non candidates.

who knows, @sam9669 could come from a sales background where that’s pretty normal.
  • 1
@C0D4 CVs are usually to separate the bad candidates. Interviews are to pick the best one from the ones that meet the requirements.
  • 4
The main part of the argument here is the he doesn't know erlang. For all we know, they could just be scamming him and he actually knows his shit
  • 15
I get the feeling everyone is going around in circles here.

Lesson 1) don’t say you can do something if you clearly can’t (or can’t learn overnight)

Lesson 2) if you do then be sure you know enough to back up the knowledge levels your applying for(aka Jnr vs Snr)

Lesson 3) don’t apply at this place 😂

I think it's Australia because of "VCAT".
  • 5
I'd try and Damage their rep unless they made you sign something beforehand. Take it to Twitter maybe?
  • 2
@illusion466 again... That is not paying for not qualifying but for lies on the document he presented. And for that je could get prosecuted.
  • 2
@illusion466 the quote is from CV, amd requirements are above, including Erlang, all of which they state he said he knows.

My advice to both sides: don't be a dick in anything you do. Don't lie, don't hide stuff from the other side. If you are asked, just answer sincerely.
  • 6
unless you signed a contract before you entered the interview, don't pay.

just send it back and write refused on it. if they keep nagging about, send an invoice back for double the amount (time spent at the interview plus administration) plus triple the amount for legal advice. because apparently, they think you can just send an invoice for anything.
  • 2
This is what phone screening are for. If they knew how to conduct an interview they would have been fine.

Otherwise, if they didn’t say ahead of time that you would be charged for the interview and had you sign acknowledging that...they haven’t a legal leg to stand on.

    Looks like a scam!
  • 17
    > Do nothing but learning Erlang until court date.
    > In court they must prove you didn't know jackshit about Erlang
    > Prove them wrong
    > Sue them for wasting your time
    > ????
    > PROFIT

@Cybork Brilliant! I'm pinning to this shit 📌

    Prices are very cheap
  • 3
The biggest problem is that head of HR is receiving more than $2 a hour.
  • 3
Hahahahahaha send these fuckers an invoice for 2 hours at a 400 hour rate and put the total discounting their invoice... To be fair.
  • 0
$400 is like what even TCS dont pay to its freshers per month
  • 0
What the fuck is this shit, the sole point of interviews is to find if a person is fit for the job, if they are not then move on, don't fucking invoice them for something you went seeking for.

I don't go to the supermarket and charge them because they didn't have any pissing bread.
  • 1
@Alice There is zero proof that time was wasted, only that of a one dimensional argument that may or may not be true.

If it was intentional then fair enough but we hardly have grounds to solidify that as fact based on a image shared on the internet.

    @NoMad yea do it
