tofonion1507yFound what I wanted on NewEgg!!!
Bought a Lenovo ThinkPad with Intel i5 2.5GHz, 8GB of DDR3, 256GB SSD, 14” display for $309, $55 next day shipping ( ^ω^ ) -
tofonion1507yI looked at some Chromebooks I just didn’t see any that I liked :/ they also didn’t look very upgrade or self repair friendly. I don’t know, can someone link me to one that they own? I can still cancel my order if I find something better.
The ThinkPad I purchased has some cool features. Super secure bios, basically locks down all inputs to the computer. Has a hard-switch to turn WiFi on and off. It has a friggin eSATA connecter built right into the side 🤯 I’m not gaming or anything so graphics aren’t important. Just want it for work, it’ll be my main dev box.
In the future I’ll be building a gaming Pc and we can have a bigger budget for some real fun. 😉 -
I'm pretty sure an SSD of that size is already almost half of your budget if you want a decent one.

tofonion1507y@mkdirLuci4 I found a Lenovo ThinkPad with a 256GB SSD for $309. I posted the specs. It seemed like a really good find.

Noob64607yDO NOT get a Lenovo!
They are horrible! The worst manufacturer right now.
Dells are really nice on the other hand. -
galena71537yGo search for third or fourth gen processors. Sec. Gen. Is rather old, also look into something second hand. Add an ssd manually if needed.

tofonion1507y@JFK422 right, I’m looking at upgrading the cpu. There’s a small community of people who’ve managed to fit i7s into their ThinkPad t420.

Noob64607y@wolt true, but now unfortunately, they are officially the worst laptops in the industry.
Let alone the cheap hardware and poor integration, it's the non-functioning drivers that make it impossible to use Lenovo products. -
tofonion1507yI’m going to upgrade from the i5 2520M to the i7 2760QM. It should work well with the motherboard. I’ll probably have to upgrade the power supply tho. I’m interested to see if I can still use the 32GB of ram with the i7 up from the 16GB of the i5.

I’m shopping around for a new laptop and would like some recommendations.
Looking at Lenovo ThinkPad or Dell Latitude, Intel i5 2nd gen 2GHz - 3GHz, 200GB - 500GB ssd
Budget is a concern, I’m not trying to spend over $400.
