Load windows xp or something in a VM to run it, similar to how they do.
-
It should be bereavement, compassionate or heck just mental health leave in some places.
Very sorry to hear that though - it's an awful thing to go through. Take the time you need to recover and don't let anyone downplay your necessity to take that time. -
This joke only makes sense if it's the other way around...
-
@SidTheITGuy Still a cantankerous old grumpy git as ever, don't you worry ;)
-
I get PowerPoint. I don't get FoxPro, for those old enough to remember.
-
What's to say you're not already seeing it?
-
@Grumpycat Your code needs refactoring before you can sensibly test it. Simple as that.
This is why tests are added at the time of writing rather than afterwards - code needs to be *designed* so it can be sensibly unit tested - and sounds like yours isn't.
I'd push back up and say this isn't viable work until refactoring has been done. -
Can't we just keep the debate about biblical hermeneutics to Reddit? Same with the literal shit posts, please.
-
What is the currency, out of interest? Congrats either way!
-
If you're just hacking together something quick and throwaway for the data, why use Java in the first place?
...or if this is for a system that's going to last, quit whining and adhere to those contracts so you don't get tripped up later. -
If someone is the lone dev on a project and doesn't know how to force push, they deserve titties.
Wait... actually, no they don't. -
No-one cares about certs, only experience.
-
@SidTheITGuy Instructions weren't followed though. He actually shoved them up my arse instead.
-
Don't agree with what you describe - but code freezes in isolation can make sense in some circumstances. We freeze over black Friday for example, as it lowers the risk of something horrendous breaking during our busiest trading period of the year. But there does have to be a reason for it.
-
@tosensei Nope, JavaScript came first. All evil before JS was just a ruse, an illusion.
-
@NoMad We've been here before. If you don't stop reprogramming these bomb diffusal robots without authorisation, someone is going to go boom.
-
@Demolishun Yes, though I meant to ask what robot it was 😅
-
People come and go, it happens constantly in online communities like this.
OStream gave as good as he got, or worse. Routinely posted about people being xxxtards, where xxx could be anything from "car" to "Java". Then got mortally offended if anyone insulted frontend, which seemed to be his thing.
Chaosesqueteam was an unapologetic spam poster and pedophile.
Nanos was fine apart from his defence of the indefensible behaviour of the user above.
No idea about Alexander. -
Evil exists because JavaScript exists.
There. Existential crisis solved. Now let's move on. -
Oohh robots? Knew it was either you or one other. What one is it?
-
£7.82
-
Sounds like me when looking at the codebase of a particular team, x1000.
-
@Voxera I think you're confusing it with Swing, the Java UI toolkit which does indeed do graphics.
-
No excuse for the above. Sorry you went through that.
-
@lorentz Oh sorry, early morning brain. You are correct.
-
@lorentz If it was unencrypted and signed then a MITM could trivially alter the signature to match tampered content - so the signing would be worthless.
-
@lorentz touched on it, but the problem with using it for "simple", accessible data is not that it's unauthenticated, but that it's unsigned.
If I want to use it to access a public file, I want to be damn sure that file hasn't been MITMd or tampered with. FTP can't do that. -
@MammaNeedHummus This is Sid, it's basically his way of saying good afternoon.
-
AFAIK there's minimal evidence it widely works, and even then, only when you catch it early.
Personally I'm of the "own it and be you" philosophy, so not something I've looked at seriously for myself. For others where it really knocks their confidence though - definitely a good option to have. -
You can't stop now!
