The nice thing about my current side project is that I don't have to care at all about optimizing. It takes 5 seconds for the motors to do their thing and I spend 95% of that waiting even with my horribly slow (but easy to write) code.

I really need to learn to think through how many stitches I’m putting into the first row of a project.

- Takes over an hour to do one row
- Already used more than 2k yards on it and it’s not even short blanket length yet (though width is ridiculous)

I know I was one at some point, but juniors can be so frustrating at times.

After some pairing for a while they're quick to adopt the "Dev" mindset and think as far as they need to...

... but with this latest batch... that day couldn't come sooner 🫠

Having to explain how exceptions work again is the last thing you wanna do under tight time constraints 🙃

One company wanted me to wait a little over a week because they had other final round interviews going on. Meanwhile, during that time, I got an offer, but declined because of lower than expected salary and higher salary on the other potential offer. Later, they got back and increased the salary and changed the role to Lead. Got the role after one more round of interview. 😁

It's a shame devRant has gone to hell, but as the moderation seems to be non existent now in a time it's desperately needed, today I kill my ++ subscription.

This was the first community and probably the last I actually thought was worth investing in and making the most of, but it turns out I lost that gamble.

It's a shame really, this place used to be the absolute highlight of my day, you guys... and of course ladies, got me through a lot in life and a lot in my career and I'll appreciate the good times, but these days; well I don't even feel good about supporting this place, how the turns have tabled.

Hey all! It's a me, Skayo, you might know me from the very early years of devRant, my highlight bot, my random quote bot, the devRant-Community on GitHub or any of the dumb rants and things that I've posted during my time.

Do you know what really grinds my gears? Those dreaded "404 Page Not Found" errors. It's like a digital black hole, sucking your users into a vortex of frustration.

And don't get me started on inconsistent coding standards. It's like trying to decipher hieroglyphics written by different ancient civilizations. Why can't we all just follow the same conventions?

Oh, and software updates that break everything! You spend hours perfecting your code, only for a new update to come along and wreak havoc. It's like the universe is conspiring against developers.

But hey, despite the rants, we developers are a resilient bunch. We thrive on solving problems, no matter how infuriating they can be. So, here's to the endless debugging, the endless coffee, and the endless love-hate relationship with coding. We wouldn't have it any other way.

Recently been lurking more and apart from the new plagues the community is going through at the moment, I swear this app goes through literal anime arcs with random entities that rise up and cause problems, kinda hilarious in hindsight. I will say it's been nice seeing y'all's names and rants again. I know I also see everything in the discord but that's got a different vibe. It doesn't help I just fucking hate discord.

It's also been a weird experience looking at my old rants. I literally found this app as I was getting my start in development and it's crazy to see the progress and put everything into perspective. Holy shit was I CRINGE. Regardless pretty nice.

Friend and I work on some side hustle. He does most of the content work, I just manage the tech stuff and pay for infrastructure. Domain renewal is upcoming too, so yeah...

He has refused to adopt project management methodologies and task tracking tools multiple times and it's becoming a real problem since I am paying for infrastructure and there are no plans for generating income. There was, but it's vaguely defined and I have no fucking idea what he's working on. I ask, but it's always vague AF.

I have no idea where this thing is going and I barely have time to work on it. Two weeks before I am writing exams, he asks me to urgently help with a project he's behind on due to power outages. I just fucking can't, I have too much other things on my plate right now.

Gonna have to have a sitdown, I can't keep spending money like this and not have a damn roadmap for planning things.

Six years ago I quit my last full time dev job, moved to the big city, failed some startups, got job offer as a substitute teacher at the local high school, been doing that ever since.

Being a teacher and following a class over 2-3 years is like having a company with employees whom you have to teach everything, but if you teach them good they can become useful quite quickly.

This year I have taken on a "special" class where many have learning disabilities but some are literal geniouses.

Very hard to lecture about something that grabs all of their attentions.

So if you have any good tips that is more than welcome.

Also I kinda forgot about this app for many years but I remember we used to have a really good community here, so nice to be back here.
