My name is pronunciated "Luke" in English. I read this comic a lot when I was young (still occasionally do actually, they're fun). Connect the two and there you go!

@TheBeardedOne if a 7 year old stack is already legacy then my current Deplhi sidehustle would like to have a word lol
-
Maliciously comply: set up a script that takes a screenshot everytime you:
- move the mouse
- click the mouse
- press a key
And send every single one to all the necessary channels.
When they tell you to stop, say that this is literally what they asked you to do. -
Nice! I just had this as my weekly rant couple weeks back haha. This is what makes me tick most https://devrant.com/rants/9349195/...

@Root all musicians know that the money is bad, but Spotify is borderline insulting indeed haha
-
As a musician, YT Music pays even less than Spotify - which already pays a shameful amount to begin with... I'm not the biggest fan of Apple but Apple Music pays more than double what other streaming services do.
If user experience and all that not really matter to you; please support your favorite musicians by listening to them through Apple Music.
Source: I'm a 100% independent musician and last year earned just under €4000 (before tax) from 1+ million Spotify streams. -
The fact that people have opinions, does not mean you have to listen to them.
If something is fun or rewarding to you (and is legal): just do it! Who cares whether it's used or if it's any good? As long as you got what you wanted from it, fuck other people's opinions. -
GF has 2 friends who are into it. One is a pretty good dungeon master. The four of us plan an entire Saturday each month and sometimes others join in one-shot fashion.
It feels fucking nerdy but it's loads of fun honestly.
Our party comp is horrible (inquisitive rogue, wind monk, bard) so we have to long rest after pretty much every encounter. Fortunately our DM is good and especially our current run is really bonkers. Trying to save some mineworkers while being haunted by goblins and emissaries every step of the way haha -
@levi2707 my school does. We only use real data from real clients in real projects.
Dropout is over 75% because the average student can't even comprehend standard deviation, let alone imputing missing data across 60 columns with descriptive names such as "XT" or "price_before_after_tax", without altering the distribution (too) much. Mind you, these courses are almost 1:1 tutoring based.
Data Science is an awesome field to work in but the average data scientist truly is worse than ChatGPT if our "senior data scientist" project coaches are a representative sample from the field. -
Just do what Chris wants and show leadership yourself. When you got promoted from project Z as well, immediately present your "omg new solution scales so well omg" to management and rake in another promotion because you showed such leadership
But probably won't work so fuck them -
C? Sure did!

Do you know the cost price of your real job? Take that, divide by half (cuz you don't need all the insurances and pension investments and stuff).
Now you're probably still earning €40 per hour *and* you're 50% cheaper than other developers out there. No brainer for both you and client.
(IANAL but this works really well in the Netherlands. Company asks €75 per hour for an hour of my time. So I ask €35-40 when side-gigging. 50% cheaper for the client and still really nice PC building money for me 😄) -
"Client just called, we need this ASAP!!!"
The reason you're called a manager, is to... You know... Manage. If everything the client requests immediately has top priority, please remove yourself from the equation and let us engineers deal with the client directly instead. -
I'm no team.
L'état? C'est moi! -
@Root the only thing that's open about OpenAI is the letters in their name.
-
@netikras if you can earn 10x as much money by spying on people and selling their data than selling a phone... Gotta love creating "shareholder value"
-
Latest Galaxy S23 clocks in at a solid 25 or so gigs, so better believe it

@progresshuh interesting! Guess we're trying and used to different things. To each their own

Having maintained (honestly decently built) Drupal websites for the past 6 years, I'm glad that dumpster fire of a fuckfest framework is dead.
Literally everything in Drupal was unnecessarily hard, opaque and unintuitive. Drupal 8 was a move in the right direction but better alternatives exist and I'm glad to use them.
I've rebuilt a couple of websites in Symfony and October and that was faster than fixing a couple bugs in D7. Drupal is dead, long live any alternative. -
Tip coming from a teacher. If you've tried exhausting the "decent" options (giving feedback, offer help in doing it better, divide tasks, ...) then start logging the agreements you made with him and how he failed to meet them. Discuss it with your teacher at least once, a couple weeks before deadline.
Most teachers are perfectly fine with failing individuals in a group assignment, as long as you can prove that the individual was useless and did not help the group. This is not snitching, this is making sure you get the grade you deserve. -
Wait. I've seen students factory their Macs after our uni cycled the certificates. They couldn't delete the old ones from KeyChain. 99.9% sure they did not select it from the list but searched for it.
Apple at it again 🤦 -
Why clicky click when you can tappy tap?

If you extrapolate the data from the annual StackOverflow survey, plus combine it with some historical data and vacancy websites... You can see that the population of developers doubles about every 5 years. It's slowing now; there are only so many people.
But this has some consequences:
1. At any given point in time, half of our field has no experience. They just left school, if even that.
2. There have never been more inexperienced devs than there are now.
3. Getting experienced (>5 years) means that you are now part of the smaller group that actually knows stuff.
Combine these three and you get the experience you had. I had the exact same thing on StackOverflow where I was top 1% contributor for a couple years. But quite literally every question I see nowadays, I have answered at least 10 times already. Taking their question and putting it in Google gives the correct answer. But they don't know cause they have only started yesterday and found StackOverflow this morning. -
No they're not. They're invented by people who need to explain to management that it is not their fault if a new hire fucks up. After all, "the candidate ticked all boxes during the interview".
But thanks anyway -
For me it's basically LibreWolf (or a properly configured Firefox) with a worse UI. Brave is also a chromium browser and I generally dislike those so yeah. Brave search engine is quite good though, usually better than DuckDuckGo.

@kiki ah nice! DS-1 sucks a lot of low end imo, so in my band it's not so useful. But it sounds pretty neat when kljust practicing solo haha

My bass board: Korg pitchblack, MXR Micro amp, Boss Bass EQ, MXR Bass Compressor (with the LED display), Fulltone OCD, MXR '78 Custom Badass distortion and a custom ZVEX Wooly Mammoth. Last one is literally one of a kind, made by a friend who is an engineer at MOD Audio.

@cprn interesting! Seems my father (MD) isn't up to date on the latest. Apologies for calling you out. It's just that I see so much stuff on the internet that has absolutely 0 scientific basis.
