@Root Regarding your comment on statistics not being racist:
Saying “people in Vegas are awful” is like saying “prime numbers are odd”. Just because it may be true in most cases doesn’t mean it’s *true*.
This is problematic because if you say “Indians are terrible devs” to somebody who happens to be Indian, your language directly implies that that person, too, is a terrible dev. But if you state that “on average, India has more terrible developers than other countries”, they can just respond with “oh yeah, good thing I’m not one of them”.
So there’s a subtle difference between stating statistic facts and absolute truths, and sadly, most racist people seem to fail to grasp that. -
You mean lack of documentation? And god forbid they provide working examples!

You know what’s even worse? Websites that require you to log in to unsubscribe. Using credentials you’re pretty sure you don’t have.

This feature can backfire! I once tried using OneDrive for iOS on a bumpy bus ride and it kept bugging me about submitting feedback... Which I did, eventually.
-
@dyte Here it is :)

Sometimes, I think it would be nice to join the public sector and help fix the mess that public IT is. Then again, rants like yours remind me that I might not want to do that.
-
On second thought, dropdowns are definitely useful, there are great third-party libraries available, but yeah, it sucks that you would need them
-
Strangely, I‘ve never felt the need to include dropdowns in my iOS apps, and I can’t think of any good apps that make use of them.
Instead of checkboxes, there are switches.
But yeah, most more advanced elements require a DIY approach 🙌 -
I’m wondering... How do sites like Netflix prevent this from happening? And what’s stopping less serious sites from implementing the same?
-
@Fast-Nop I’d guess it depends - at my last internship, my boss told me I was the most productive employee in my team. Of course, that might have been more due to the team rather than my own brilliance.
-
@Fast-Nop Fair point, interns do take a lot of time and effort to onboard with unclear long-term benefits for the company.
However, since I have previous working experience with the technologies they are using, I was hoping for a little more appreciation. But maybe it’s just not a good fit. -
@alice It’s actually illegal to offer unpaid voluntary internships longer that three months - which is why many companies switched to shorter periods

Just replace the FB and twitter plugins by icons that link to the pages. Or, you know, leave it as it is and move on 😏
