Dark when coding at home (usually night time). Light at work under fluorescent lights.
-
Most Linux users: type a command (if known, otherwise google it), search for parameters or the whole command with params from interwebs (without knowing what you are doing), if not working, try sudo.
And behold, you are using the most popular GUI of modern age; Google.
No offense anyone 😁 -
@netikras Actually I wrote the wrong way around. Was meaning you should eager and only include what you needed for the dto.
Anyways, sounds like some refactoring is needed :) -
@netikras Not sure I understand the problem as it sounds to me that it's using eager loading where it is not needed and simply using lazy loading would fix your issue
-
I use Visual Studio for .Net, VS Code for scripts and JS/React etc., Jetbrains stuff for Java and PhP and all sorts of DB tools for different Databases. All pretty much good or great, but which might be unpopular opinion to some, I do love MS tools the most.
-
I have to admit, i didn't read all your posts, but yet wanted to add.
Just wanted to say that there really is no silver bullet and TDD is not one. If it suites yours and teams doing, by all means. But its good to remember that everything can not always be tested, it will add a lot of time to a project and its hard to sell for a customer.
In real life budgets and deadlines TDD is really hard and would require a waterfall like planning so that everything can be locked in so that you dont have to write all the layers inc. the tests again after sketching. -
Can't understand the hate. Tools for the trade and answers to problems are what we provide.
Ok, its just me as I have been a fullstack dev+consultant for around 15 years and have been involved in everything from infra to project management and customer experience management and I love this.
But hey, I am a sort of a on demand specializing generalist/chameleon that can do anything. -
I have decided to name my first born Null. That'll be awesome.
-
And to be honest, he followed the specs as requested 😂
-
I call this the "silver platter syndrome"
-
@saucyatom
Sounds somewhat familiar :D -
@saucyatom Not necessarily, but might still be the case. If you work in the biz for over 15 years and attend to all sorts of projects, you will see all kinds of solutions.
My actual point (with no offense) was that every one should not expect every old working production application to be ported to newest or even newer platforms and mindsets.
If you look at a house built at the 70's, tou cant expect it to be built with current standards. -
@saucyatom It is pretty common for older applications to be outsourced at some point and it has been seemingly cheap to outsource to India. Not a good trend though as the true costs are a lot more though as the efficiency is poor.
-
This is just called legacy.
Sure there seems to be room for improvement, but somehow reading devRant gives me the expression that every younger dev things that most of the applications are made with newest techs. Wake up :) -
Don't really get the React vs. Typescript reference as IMO the most versatile combo indeed is React +Redux+Typescript
-
Some see blurry, I C#
Some do PcP, I do PhP
Some like it straight, I prefer Angular
Some plan ahead, I tend to React -
@C0D4 Really, i take your word for it. I changed back to light themes in well lit places because dark ones did not feel goos at all to my eyes. In darker environments, dark themes are ok for me too
-
What the hell does it matter, if the message itself is clear
-
Actually, there are some valid usages for these, for example loop counters, lambdas, formulas in scientific programming, but I know what you mean and agree fully.
-
@Cyanide Hmmm, don't feel necessary to provide
-
@Cyanide Excellent, no glasses, age 35. I do use dark theme if in dark environment, but in lighty offices these days, dark theme is actually worse to your eyes
-
If the other option is to use dark theme and put the lights off, I go with light one.

I find that the job of the university is to teach one to seek information, give the ability to learn and in our biz, logical thinking and problem solving. Everything else on top of this is a plua and can be learnt while working.
-
@linuxxx Ok, what I was trying to say is that working with different languages, techniques and platforms gives you a lot more than living in your php/node bubble.
At my previous job I was sort of a swiss-army knife. I coded with .Net, Java, Php, Js (Angular, Node...) and even occational C. I also was the DbAdmin in MsSql, MySql and Db2 and administered our Win and Linux servers. That was actually huge fun. Now I'm sort of a lead architect/CTO in a multiplatform company and I am loving it. -
@linuxxx Well argumented and reasoned dislikes have their place if the arguments are provided like you did. Although, I must ask, why you didn't report the Struts 2 issue, Heartbleed or Shellshock when you were code-browsing ;) Jokes aside, what if your boss gives you a .Net application, you should extend, would you decline ?
-
@AndSoWeCode I hope you are right and the world just looks different nowadays. I know there is a lot of people like me, who just want to get the job done using the tools necessary, but i feel like the other group has become louder and larger and i feel sorry for and behalf of them.
-
@Nato No, I expected respect between developers as a one big community as I think it should be. Theres a lot of things to rant about and still respect the colleagues from the other camps
-
@Jmann But this phenomenom exists in the real life as well, it's just more subtle, cause people with different backgrounds don't collide thst often
-
@AndSoWeCode I have also come to similar conclusion. Although, this is what scares me, cause they are the seniors of the future and I don't remember hating anything when I was getting started.
-
Well, it totally depends, what kind of app are we talking about. If it is a conversion engine, one off users are quite normal, if it is a game, well its shit.
