A common misconception that I witness in professional development is that every developer knows everything and never has to search for answers... I have had a job like that, but I was maintaining a legacy fat client app rhat had been so templatized that I almost went crazy with boredom. I dont want another job like that lol.
-
And your point? Lol
-
Not being a smart a$$. The senior developer that interviewed made me solve an algorithm on paper in C#, then told me to wait a minute as he had a junior type it into .net fiddle and run it. I missed a semicolon.

Cau<tab...tab...>se they want 2 c what u know
Know;

Mostly sticky notes... Our standard is one note per password lined up in the bottom right hand corner of our monitor.

I know a guy! His name is Google, and he will consult his brother StackOverflow any time you ask!

Join up and make sure that they never stop hearing your name being associated with greatness! Make him eat his pre-judgements!

Most companies will push their interns into areas that they are weaker in. This helps the inter become more rounded and experienced in other areas. An intern is there to learn... This is not always comfortable, but how can you ever expect to be a better dev if you never step outside your comfort zone?

That's the new Hyperdrive charging system... You didnt know?

Yep happens every monday.

Any time I have to reverse engineer others python spaghetti code makes me despise it.
-
See you guys on monday... the first of June... 2020...
-
Do you get off on pain? Cause that's how you cause pain...
-
Funny. What worse is working with developers who have never learned that lesson.
-
It does exist! After all of these years!

@jesustricks Funny.... So, correct me if I wrong, but you assume that since someone doesn't have "karma" on a social media network, that they have nothing to contribute to a community? Anyone who has less then 500 "karma" points shouldn't respond to your posts, or have any input in this hallowed devrant fellowship? Let me teach you a few things young man. First, some of the most eye opening revelations have come from "new" co-workers. New people can teach you a few things if you listen to them. Second, you were new at some point as well. Third, there have been a few communities that ousted members based on them not being "like" the rest of them. KKK, Hitler Germany, soviet Russia, etc... etc... I refuse to accept that points on a social media site relate to a person's worth in the real world. Hopefully, you will learn that too when you mature a little.
P.s. your welcome... -
What is wrong with ignoring posts sent by these people? IMHO, it's a little ridiculous to be discussing AI algorithms to block posts that don't fit into your dogmatic worldview, when you could just choose to simply ignore them.
-
No... script kiddies... maybe... try social engineering a receptionist during a pen test looking like the stereotypical movie hacker and you wont make it very far....
-
Did you make changes to the bug reporting app?

Baby duck do do da do do

I am going to let you in on the biggest secret in professional development... No one knows exactly what they are doing, or how they are going to build a project all of the time. A <good> professional developer is always learning new/better ways to go about doing things, often from google or stackoverflow lol... over time, you develop an ability to see through bad practices, and you develop your own style. The best advice that I can give you is to think about a project that will help you, and learn how to build it. Then read books like clean code to make it better.
My motto... Make it work, make it fast, make it pretty.... IMHO.
Good luck. -
Happy birthday!

My therapist has spent the last 10 years trying to understand the way my brain works, and you want me to explain it to you in three pages???
-
I didn't go to college. I learn better by creating projects that are a. Right at my higher ability limit, and b. Meaningful. College is great for teaching you how to learn. If you have that skill set already, it doesn't necessarily benefit you IMO. Several of the guys on my dev team aren't college graduates either.

Here is my story. I dont have a degree. I joined the military because I didnt want to work at a plant making leather any longer. I have always been a computer guy, but had a hard time getting in to IT due to my lack of a degree. I joined the military as a mechanic on Apache helicopters, because I didnt believe in my ability to work on computers. Anyway, I "got noticed" in the army for my IT and programming skills. When I finished my enlistment, one of the IT contractors that I worked with told his boss about me, and his boss requested my resume. 2 years later, and I went to work for another company doing more intensive work, when the development manager noticed my work, and started trying to get me on in the dev shed. That went on for two years, when a slot finally opened up... Oh and not just a junior dev slot... They hired me on as a Senior developer, for the ML team to boot...
Long story, my point is that it takes time. Work hard, learn, and get your foot in the door. -
Rants on development related matters
-
No... Opinions that are stated as facts with no reasoning is the root of all evil in my opinion. Why you ask? American politics...
Define optimization? Cleaning up your usings is a form of optimization... -
Anyone who tells you that it is possible to be a professional developer, AND not study outside of work is probably lieing to you. Either that or they are a junior dev with no aspirations, who is stuck maintaining some ancient monolithic client server app...
Yes, knowledge should be shared/discussed with anyone who will listen...
As far as recommendations, I can't really give any without context. -
I have just the solution for that. Accidentally delete some important files from your project and cut your internet so that you dont have any access to source control... That will get the blood pumping.
