There is also kali, openSuse, and enterprise openSuse available from store, you can use those along with the WSL.

The new update even has option to translate the file paths to and from WSL to windows directories.
There's also about sharing env variables between the systems, so you can build through WSL but don't have to duplicate the installations.

@tonymontana Ruby has a syntax that you fall in love with.
And after you get a hang of Ruby, languages like Crystal or Elixir that use the same syntax are within your grasp.
So going with Ruby is worth your time.

The new version of Ruby is faster, but there are not many jobs for RoR available. Its not dropping, just stagnant.
But Ruby as a language is awesome and I'd suggest getting into that, not a niche like RoR.

Teaching the proper stuff is too much of a hassel and most teaches I've encountered don't even know what the proper way to do is. They only know the one basic "example" way to do it.
