@JKyll Lucky. I wound up quitting a coding bootcamp in part because the first half was stuff I already knew and I was only in it for the later things like Node and Ruby. I was nearly on par with the teacher, and yet I still got harassed every single session when I, having already finished the assignment for the week ignored the "get into groups" call for practice time.

Y'know what? I think I would. I'd have to negotiate for multiple pieces since I'm just getting started and my tastes run small and simple.

ALL. THE. TIME.

Aaaaand bookmarked.

@theKarlisK If the system becomes too much to handle, just whip it into submission and then covertly swap it out with something of a similar build. 🤠
-
@SauceBoss If it's so important to be concise and get on with your day, why should we have to put up with the interruption in the first place? Nobody gets anything out of it.

@davenall I don't have a problem with the odd random story/rant. It was just a matter of there being FIVE in a ROW that were completely unrelated that made me feel like I was on Reddit instead.

I despise small talk and the expectation of providing an answer that will make the other person feel good. Instead, I usually just shrug or say "Meh" whenever anybody asks in passing. I might also respond with my physical state like, "cold" or "wet" depending on the weather.

@netikras I took a gander and particularly enjoyed the return function (especially the invisible question mark):
public boolean wellHasItThen/*?*/() {
return ohYesItHas;

@GyroGearloose Actually, Millennial refers to anyone for whom the 00s was a formative part of their childhood or young adulthood. The numbers vary depending who you ask, and there is also overlap, but I tend to think of it as people born in 1985-2000 or so - maybe a little earlier.
There are many who fall in between. I know someone about 6 years older than myself who always had a difficult time identifying with Millennials despite technically falling within the accepted range. For me, being a "90s kid" is a big part of being a Millennial, but some of the younger ones wouldn't have any memory of the 90s at all. -
@gowtham-sai Years of minimal oversight, total apathy, and seniority-based hiring structures. :)
-
@polaroidkidd Only if they'll offer to move me out there or some other worthwhile incentive! I was just happy to read a positive rant and wanted to see how things were going for you. :)

How's it going now?

@CoffeeNcode Thanks! P:

!!! Professor Layton ftw!

@davenall GenXers are convinced that Zs are also Millennials, so they take these stories about literal children as proof positive that an entire population of twenty- and thirty- somethings don't deserve a proper adulthood.

@devios1 "Nah, it's cool - take your time updating. I've got social media." *scrolls through Reddit for the next 40 minutes*

I've found that people like to ask about their super-specific setup. "Have you ever worked with ... ?" like everybody knows every single software out there. If you at least know the category, just say, "No, but I've worked with [similar program/language] and it would just be a matter of figuring out the [workflow/syntax]." If you don't, ask what it does and relate as closely as you can.
-
That's some straight-up expulsion material there.

Following to see just how dead you are come the evening.

@TeeSeal That would be my first instinct if I used it often enough to warrant a change. Although I was thinking more along the lines of "just fucking" if that would work (a brief search tells me only the first word is checked against). "jfc" might be fun too.
> install [whatever]
*permissions error*
> just (fucking) install [whatever] -
Something something Arrested Development reference, stress on the "Development".

This is like the geek version of A-one. "Leet A" - the leetest of the leet.

Basic programming should be a prerequisite for any and all of these! It teaches problem-solving, logic, syntax, etc. These are much more applicable in other areas than vice versa.

@ThatPerlDeb Absolutely, but it still FEELS cheap and lazy!
