@JoshBent better just alternatives, since imo gimp is a pretty good alternative for most people. I'm also definitely not able to create something as good as gimp.

get the thinkpad t430, you can get it for less than 200$ then get a cheap ssd, some extra ram and put linux on there. In the end youll have a solid laptop thats similar in speed to the current ones. I would not get a new laptop now since next year you'll get double the cores for the same price.

If net neutrality was taken away it would cause tremendous damage to the economy, since a lot of businesses will just straight up move to Europe.

Definitely get Lineage OS been using it for a while and it's completely stable, you can even use it without any Google apps installed and since Android is open source you will not be tracked.

I would really recommend you to learn Rust. It will teach you a lot about Data Types, how to handle Errors decently and how to programm functionally and can also teach you how to write parallel code. Imo learning rust will help you in every other programming language.
