Claiming that Windows is better for any use-case is like claiming a suit from the rack is better than a custom made from the tailor!
If you really claim such bullshit, you have never even tried to find YOUR window manager or YOUR shell!
Using a minimalistic system with tiling WM and the shell application of my choice has improved my performance greatly. And I am pretty sure it generally helps to customize the system to ones needs. With Windows, that's not really possible imho. I regularly use it for gaming and get frustrated with it quite often. -

Every now and then I think about starting a blog about my daily struggles, summarizing the work I put in finding a solution through various stackoverflow / blog posts... But then I think that that work is redundant and useless as the answer was there already... What do you think?

Imagine u had a 300 rant and thought: "I'm gonna write that email later."... Just to find out, that it's 500 now. I feel ya.

@PoweredByCoffee actually I'm trying to avoid using Java wherever I can 😅 but this video is just too funny to ignore.

@debug
Oh yeah, you're right... These functionalities became so natural to me that I totally forgot to mention them.
I tend to use 'CTRL+Shift+A' for actions and 'CTRL+(Shift+)N' for classes/files instead of 2xShift for everywhere tho... Now I'm considering to really start using search everywhere as the 'navigate class/file' action is bound to 'CMD+(Shift+)O' on macs... Thanks for the hint. -
@digli
As mentioned earlier, I work on Linux and Mac... So i have to switch between multiple keybinds on a daily basis. Still worth the hassle. With time I became a jetbrains fan boy. For good reason. -
@digli
tl;dr:
Eclipse is shit-tier. Jet brains is god-tier.
------
No seriously: personally I prefer IntelliJ over Eclipse because it
a) doesn't look shit some kid coded 20 years ago
b) comes with most features a developer needs pre-installed
c) is not just highly extensible but installing extensions usually is a breeze
d) allows you to use multi-cursor, multi-selection and all that modern stuff I don't want to miss anymore.
To be fair, I dislike that jet brains products are inconsistent on their keyboard shortcuts. Different program - different shortcuts. Different OS - different shortcuts. This is annoying when u have to work on different machines. My usual approach to this problem is trying out the wrong shortcut, cursing, (trying out another wrong shortcut, cursing)* using the right shortcut. 😅 -
That's a great idea mate! 🙃

Welcome to the salvation, brother!
Fist thing to do on Ubuntu is to flee from Ubuntus desktop environment "unity" ASAP. I'd recommend "gnome-shell" for beginners and "i3" for hack0rs. If you are looking for something more windows themed "MATE" and "Cinnamon" might be interesting for u too.
Once u get used to Linux, you probably want to get away from Ubuntu as a professional. So I'd recommend Debian or if you really want to waste hours and hours on installing and maintaining your system try Arch Linux, my current distro.
As a rule of thumb: The less the system initially does for you the more you learn about Linux. ☺️ -
@kurtdawg24
Okay, I have a new life goal. 😬 -
@dontbeevil
I don't know about you but to me it sure feels strange not to have pull requests and no "real" branches. Furthermore checking out a svn branch is kinda odd too. I regularly checkout all branches instead of the desired one. -
@Sraleik
The colleagues are nice and I have a wide variety of applications there... I'm like the bitch for projects they don't want to do/cannot do. This way I've learn quite a lot. objective-C, C, C++, Java, JavaScript.... And a lot more. Frontend and backend...
I'm a freelancer and this is not my only client. So I have to do quite a lot. -
One of the first things I clarify during a job interview is that I'm not going to follow any dress code. I go to my job interviews dressed in nerdy shirts. If my future employer does not agree with me, it's no place I want to work anyways.

I'm getting payed for writing vue and I'm pretty happy with it. 😀

This fact causes me to question my intellect on a regular basis.
