@zemaitis Yeah, it would've been for me as well. Unfortunately I wasn't involved in the decision-making. The client initially said, "we're still implementing scrum, so this might change in the near future"..
-
Also, everything is a dependency, since when is testing-stuff not a dev-dependency?
-
A good PO will listen and then prioritize tech debt tickets.
I hope you have that kind of PO. -
I used to work for a company that focused mainly on app development, I was in the only web-app team there. All the C++ apps were tested there. Our team started to work on a really big project. PO & SM wanted us to test, dev team wanted to test besides the senior dev. So, what did we do? No tests whatsoever.
Almost all other devs left the company within the following 6 months. -
@iiii True, unfortunately all the company internal meetings are at the beginning of that timeframe so they whine about me not attending and I end up starting 'early' again - I'm such a pushover. They suggest that I take longer lunch breaks, but that doesn't really work for me either.
@Hazarth Good idea, so far they do review each other, but also want me to review just to be safe. One of them is taking on more responsibility, so it might get better soon. -
These generic copy/paste answers are the worst! They all expect the applicant to write custom applications for them but are too lazy to do the same thing. They should be ashamed of themselves!
I wish they would also be honest about the reasons, I just can't believe that it's always "we've found someone else who fits the skill set better". -
As a candidate I usually like the culture checks or trial day. You get a good grasp of the athmosphere at that playe and the attitude of the people you'll be working with. I already dodged a bullet or two due to that.

@ArtOfBBQ no, in my case, not that I know of. Apparently he impressed management on the interview, but I still don't understand how he did it.
Also I don't get why management wants one of the team to be present at the interview and assess the guy and then shits all over their professional assessment. 🤷 -
What I usually do in situations like that is, "sure, send me the link, I'll do it later today. In case you don't want to wait, you could also do it yourself via CMS (attach manual and page)". Usually they get the drift and do it themselves.
-
@iiii that might be the case, but at least they'd catch onto most errors I find in our current projects. I can't even count all the different ways 'successful' is spelled in there, let alone wrong plural '-s', like 'informations' etc.
You open a file and it screams at you, half of it is (rightfully) underlined. -
@MadMadMadMrMim yeah, that's a good question, I guess digital events could still be the way to go and being active on social media, at least that seems to work for most people I know.
Didn't know that it was that bad with LinkedIn though, I constantly get added by people I don't know, but I don't mind. -
As far as I can tell networking helps the most, but it's tough out there. Good luck and keep hanging in there.

Also depending on which Jira you use, shit's unbelievably slow! 😩

I used to hear my office's phone ring EVERYWHERE, no matter if I was at the office, at home or outside in a park with no phones around.
My doc said I had a burnout, had to stay at home for over a month to recover. Also took another job soon afterwards. -
So true. In my home country my bank app was actually pretty good, I moved 1.5 yrs ago and tried 4 banks until I ended up with something somewhat acceptable.
I just don't understand why they suck so bad at UX in that area..
