Just the thought of being "that guy" made me refrain from commenting when I rooted and softbricked my first Android. Then I slaved through it and came out wiser than I was. People are too afraid to learn by themselves. Less coddling.

Arch is a good to manually install once or twice. You learn something, feel great and get tinkering.
It showed me a more inside look into the file system etc, but it's not something I'd do day to day.
Manjaro gives you a nice environment that works out of the box without having to spend another six hours after installation to get basic sound working.
Tl;dr: install arch once or twice to learn, get an installer afterwards. -
@MegaBots Naw man, it's a reference to a TV series where some random corporate asshat is like "uyuuh u use loonix too".
-
I see you're using gnome.
-
@donkeyScript That's a whole new level of terrifying!
-
I... I don't even... Wait, I think I can feel an aneurysm incoming.
-
Please walk around with a plastic bag full of dried mushrooms and always pronounce Aviato in the most horribad pretentious pseudo-Italian way possible.
-
I almost missed the sarcasm there and had /g/ flashbacks. If your name was Pajeet I'd probably have believed it :P
-
The ICE must be too complex.
-
Two big mugs, one in the morning which I sip until noon and one at 5PM out of habit. Water and tea as needed in between.
-
Open offices increase productivity, didn't ya know? Two people are loudly productive and the rest can't concentrate.
+1 headphones and instrumental music -
@tahnik Glad to hear it. The nerve of some people...
-
Love jetbrains, but they take like two minutes to start up on my dual core potato PC. Atom is pretty good and customizable as far as "sane" editors go. If you're brave you could try emacs or vim. Both require some dedication I think.
-
I... I am flabbergasted... My condolences. Also tell your father his friend is a total moron that impulse buys and expects free tech support.
-
@linuxxx hope he'll have fun doing death marches every few months to push out a new cookie cutter game if he goes to one of the big names :P
-
@Minnow acceptable mistake then, that stuff looks probably all the same to her :>
-
Pixel is right. Go like "we need ze code on za private cloud! Meme tech!". He'll totally drool over the idea.
-
That's not trying, that's downloading the first thing you see. Cutting slack because math major but I've had CS majors being clueless about JDK... :/
-
@Gauthier are vertical mice really helping? Seemed to me like overpriced meme tech. I do understand the natural orientation of our hands but damn, it those mice seem to weird.
-
Even putting 9crap into this list is a crime.

It's been actually four months or so since I last had any pains! Corrected my seating/monitor height and started some special stretching every so often. If it flares up again I'll be sure to have it looked at.
-
@b--x ;A; sorry to hear that! Plenty of water and nothing much you can do about it then...
-
Still better than that pic of a pc full of dead/melted roaches.
-
While computers are great during the winter days... Having my room warm up even more than the usual 30-35°C is such a pain! Don't you guys have some cooling or fans?
-
Not a bug, brain working as intended.
-
@fuckfuckityfuck both very good points. I might've put it wrong. For example he wrote a patient management system for his father's clinic and he's very proud of it and afraid people might copy/resell it if it's up on github. Not putting up his "worse" code, rather the more simple projects that he wouldn't mind people copying.

Phone call from friend's mobile, his gf is on the line:
"Hey, you study CS, right?"
"Y-Yeah..? "
"My phone logs into Facebook but my PC doesn't. Fix it please."
Spent the next twenty minutes explaining her via phone how to change password and reinstall FB app, 15 of which were about assuring her that her data won't be lost by changing a password. -
Congratulations my friend! Hopefully all goes well for you. I am close to graduate myself so it's one of those worries that fly through the head.
-
@firusvg Hear, hear. I never had to deal with that because my friend was the goody two shoes kind that everybody ran to. Sadly he moved away so now I get friends/acquaintances ringing me up for the umpteenth time when their Facebook doesn't work :P
-
@arminiae And yet through all programming courses I had to do that. Madness I tell ye!
