    It makes time pass, gives you confidence. Effort is always rewarded by yourself this way. Doing the opposite sucks.

    If you're going to put your time into something, why not put everything you can into it? You're wasting your time otherwise.

    Effort in is a shitty metric. Quality out is much better.

    It doesn't matter if I gave it my all washing the dishes if they're still fucking dirty, vs using a machine and they're squeaky clean.

    don't just do it because you think it's worth a try....
    If it's worth a try, then fucking do it properly.

    effort is more like a reason for others to pat you on the back

    Not really. Yes effort doesn't mean success, but putting in effort also trains you to have a better work ethic, more patience and generally makes you a happier person

    Seems to require effort, or some cataclysmic event that would cause us to think more about ways to improve code quality.
