    @omniskop I recommend iTerm with this setup for OS X. Run on boot & add a global key binding to Ctrl+" or Cmd+". Position it like Quake Console. Also hide it from Cmd+Tab via NSUIElement:1.

    @lotd To be frank, Powershell is probably the best shell available on any platform.

    @ricram That depends on the flavor of Linux. For example I think in Fedora it's CTRL-ALT-F2 but adding another shortcut is simple

    CTRL-Space and typing "ter" then enter does it fast enough for me.

    Ctrl+Alt+T, drop down term in gnome. No waiting.

    Yukuake with F12 is amazing.
