When I was going to meetings regularly I would often crack jokes during the meeting. I am no longer invited to those meetings. I never did it out of turn. It was usually after my boss would ask "How is it going?"
The official reason I don't go is because they created middle management to reduce the meeting size. There was too many people in that meeting for sure. -
retoor23932dStandup is a place where you can shine if you are the only prepared one with that can say in four lines:
- What you did
- What you've done
- What you're gonna do today
- Who's help you optionally need
End then move on. You will see that if you do it the cool way, coworkers will catch up. Don't lower to the level of the rest saying they don't remember what they did yesterday because they were 'so busy'. Being busy has nothing to do with mismanagement. -
@retoor
1. fixed some paths
2. isn't this the same as 1?
3. maybe drugs I don't know. some shitty TV show. running tests in the background and getting ideas randomly and tweaking stuff. things looking good
4. anyone helpful
I did it! I'm part of the team! where does the flexing step in 🤔 -
@retoor Until you get the "managers"/PMs "hey we were thinking about this feature"
It also functions as a morning roll call to see who's late (yes, I've seen people get in trouble because of stand-up missing/being late for it). It's not meant to wait for anyone, damn it! (had 1 client do them properly, and I miss working with/for her)
I tend to page out pretty quickly once they start prattling -
I think in both cases "stand up" refers to the length; it's a session too short to sit down. Then again, to make daily stand ups that short you need a scrum master who's awake and a team that's roughly scrum-sized. (the scrum master can be the dev with the least worst people skills)

retoor23931d@jestdotty fuck, while writing it I was like huh? It was always three right? But just continued

@BordedDev I hate the roll call aspect so much. All my coworkers are early birds, the 9am standup is midday for half the team so they resist my campaign to move it a bit later in the day even though management is empathetic to my pleas. As a night owl I'm useless until 11 and the earlier you wake me up the more time I spend grumpily and unsuccessfully trying to gather my thoughts on the clock.

@lorentz It gets better, my current PM likes putting all the meetings in the afternoon. I have days with more meeting than work time :(
Is there a hidden joke in the fact that stand up meetings/daily stand-ups share the same word root with stand up comedy? It would seem the creators of that pointless activity thought it naughty/mischievous, if not a humorous giveaway that those gatherings are more for fun, entertainment, a joke, and a platform for product managers to not feel left out from the development process
