@12bitfloat South Africa. Although this appears to be the case in a lot of places these days
-
@TheBeardedOne South africa seems to be a lost cause in general, sadly...
Honestly, get out while you still can -
netikras3526122hwhen lunch became a non-woking time (hour) of the day. So that you'd be paid for 8 hous of working time.
IDK, it's been here like this since forever. Do other countries/companies actually pay you for having lunch...? -
@12bitfloat yea it's getting worse by the minute. The government seems hell bent on going the way of Zimbabwe "but don't worry it'll work this time"
-
12bitfloat1013519h@kiki You know with me having eyes and all I'd say their problem is a little bit different than that

kiki3618918h@12bitfloat this was a reference to “my country sold its soul to you motherfuckers” from Canada's Stephen Paul Taylor's song

BordedDev67018h@TheBeardedOne Yep I find it disgusting, they want more of your time for less pay - IMO they should also pay for commute time. Like, I'd get up and drive for an hour in heavy traffic for fun.
But yeah, it's become "the norm" all over the place. It's here in NL as well and some places will even dictate when you must have your lunch.
Honestly, I think it comes from a large disparity between the costs of aspirations and the drive to get them. e.g. If you can afford a house by always doing overtime, you probably would, then that becomes the normal expectation of that company of you, so if they ever replace you, they will try and figure out how to get that extra hour out of the next person -
@BordedDev I had a situation once where the company didn't want me to log the extra time on something (we didn't get overtime) because it just eats the estimate... Okay so I must give the complete wrong impression of how long this kind of thing takes so we can mess with the next person... Cool
-
BordedDev67014h@TheBeardedOne Yep was working at place and they only wanted you take the time out of following days for the same reason. But you still had to be at the meetings etc so in the end you didn't really get it back

TrayKnots54711hHate unpaid lunches. Even worse, lunches are still mandatory here. Don't get me wrong, I live in Germany. We have so many worker's rights, it is already a double-edged sword. But still, that's some bullshit. Mandatory lunches, unpaid... Far worse than unpaid lunches.
When did "9-5" become 8-5, lunch is unpaid?
