One of my student ask me this. I dont have exact answer so i decided to take help professionals here and based on their experiences i hope they can help him and many people who has similar questions.

Is it necessary to have graduation from USA to work in USA Or canada?

What are the possibilities to get an internship or job in US market without having education from USA?

From what I can tell it depends on what you're trying to do.

High level job? More than likely need a degree. (By high level, I mean like a leadership position at a major company.)

Trying to get a job as a programmer and focus on just programming? You should be fine, as long as you know what you're actually doing. More companies are starting to accept experience and knowledge over a degree.

General rule of thumb: the higher the level of job, the more education that is required.

With that being said, if you're skilled and have a degree, then you're more than likely going to be able to get any job you want. (A degree being just a simple 4 year Bachelor's degree.)

No. You can get a job in both the US and Canada without any degree at all, but it's harder and it can limit your career later. (I know people who were hired at a certain level and had performance that suggested a promotion was in order, but they got blocked because they didn't have a degree.) You do need to have some proof that you actually know how to do the job, or that you can pick it up. Work experience at companies that seem decent (not body shops), open source projects, released applications etc can help with this.

The value of a degree from a non-US or non-Canadian institution will depend on the reputation of the country and the university (if it has an international reputation or a web presence).

@kaiyum2012 Still depends which European country and which university! A degree from Cambridge is going to get you a lot further than a degree from a no-name university in a country with a reputation for degree fraud problems or just generally poor education. @kaiyum2012 IMO Germany is fairly well-respected, especially for STEM. If they pick a school with a _good_ CS/SE program then it may even give them a leg-up over locally-trained candidates.

I graduated from freakin' Moldova, not even with good grades (I just hated it so much that I basically dropped out, but got dragged through by inertia), and got a job in Canada as a software developer.

If it's in IT, people care more about what you can do, rather than what toilet paper you have to offer. I'm sorry for being so blunt about university degrees. I just found a ton of them completely useless. I've seen far more people become successful in their career in IT by having a superficial degree but focused on experience, than people with shiny degrees, of the same age.

@kaiyum2012 Toronto. I did have a lot of experience behind before I applied. Once I did, I was hired very fast.

For experience, I am small software company owner at this moment. If i decid later on in my career to shift canada or USA what should i bare in mind? Does my experience as compnay owner with some coding background helps me ? Btw im mainly doing unity 3d and AR stuff.

@kaiyum2012 for Canada, you can apply as self employed through their express entry program. But you have to show company bank statements, letters from 5 clients about the services you provided... Etc.
