pneves3328yIt is strange for me.
I'm a divided OS dev. I hate every Linux interface and UX. None fits me. But when you face compiling, lots of installations for some (web for me) package, Linux it's a must.
In Windows I have installation packages, packages that just run, packages that I need to add to PATH manually (and it's a mess to do it). But it's easier to use, and, maybe because it has more people using it and more revenue, and they use to focus on UX and simplifying things.
I'm a dev and I can use Linux with no problems. But sometimes I'm lazy and I just want to do basic things fast and don't have to configure them manually before. And I always feel that oftentimes things in Linux won't come packed in the best way and you always have to do some tweaks. -
Baspar518yMainly because of personalisation. I want to run my desktop in tilling? Just install i3 and done. Want to add a weird shortcut? Just add it to conf file of any WM. Need to override a default behavior of your OS? Tweak systemd and go.
I'd say that macOS is also good at this game... But I feel like "breaking a law" whenever I try to do something not in.the path drawn by Apple. And for Windows.... Regedit is fun for 5 min :3 -
@pneves In terms of UI interfaces, I run XFCE. It seems to stay out of the way and is lightweight. Gnome and KDE attempt to do too much and I simply need a launchpad for apps.

Main reason: it's open source. I am not comfortable working with a system which can't be checked for backdoors in a mass surveillance era. Next to that, I like how open it is and that I am actually the one in control, not my operating system.

Been using Microsoft since MS-DOS - Win 7. Got tired of their intrusions. Their taking over my computer. Forcing updates and restarts whenever they want. Sick of the amount of money I've paid for MS products over the years. Their bloatware. Their novel length legal bullshit that you're forced to agree to.
Linux just works. Forget about the GUI, just learn the CLI. Google when you can't figure something out. 1 Year Microsoft free and it's the best decision I've ever made. -
mxdpeep5078yit works, it's updated, I don't need to wait to power it off, it does everything better than Windows, I am happy using it
