I did that once, with my large foot. Bought replacement panel for 60 bucks. Laptop still working since then (> 5y ago!)

@JoshBent I didn't know the earphone ear-bud is stuck between the screen and the keyboard. I tried to close the lid, it didn't close, obviously. I punched it from the top.

Opened the lid after an hour and....

But yeah try to use an external monitor, until you can get ahold of a new panel or notebook. Otherwise maybe look for a pi if you're not big on money..?

Buy a cheap(er) old(er) Laptop that's affordable, because some people don't know the value of good old workstations, slam Linux on it (or any other OS), remove the HDD from your broken laptop, connect with the "new" one, copy the files, enjoy life.

If you can sacrifice portability, invest in a decent Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse and you can use it as a Desktop.

Eventually, you can get a new laptop, if need be.
