    @GyroGearloose
    In the US that would pay for 1/10th of the bill... :(

    @RiderExMachina True...

    Can't understand... In Europe we pay taxes, but at least in my country a good chunk comes back to the ones who really need it, with help for the pour and free / low cost public hospitals

    Like, in Portugal you pay 25€ (around 20$) to go to a doctor, and more 10€ for blood exams and most of the examples you would do there.

    I do blood tests every two years, and I pay 20€, a Single AIDS test costs 700€ without government help.

    Workers thought pay twice, one time in taxes (part goes to the healthcare) and another when we go to the doctor. But the Elderly, the sick and kids don't pay. Have Cancer? You pay less for the entire treatment here that you would pay for 1 treatment in the US...

    the US governmental system is corrupted to the roots... And I say that my government is made of corrupts, but at least here we don't die, because we couldn't pay a vaccine...

    Actually, If you enter a Portuguese hospital, no matter where you from, legal or not, and Ask for aid, you will get it, even If you can't pay for it... the details will be arranged afterward (usually with extra help from other departments, like for homeless, junkies...)

    In reality it comes down to 2 things: greed and poor health.

    Adam Ruins Everything has a good breakdown on Youtube on why hospital costs are so high in America for the first point, but I don't have hard facts for the second. Basically if everyone was as healthy as could be insurance would pay more for hospital bills, but smoking and obesity cause those rates to be higher because those people go to the hospital more often.

    I'm someone who likes smaller government, so I don't like the idea of governmental universal healthcare for a myriad of different reasons, but I won't bore you with those details.
