If I could end it by contract by my choice, yes.
Otherwise, no way. Us mortals are meant to die.
Live your life to the fullest so when your time comes you have no regrets. -
More like immortality with the opportunity to die when I can’t get any more fulfillment
-
Depends.
Vampire style - turned at age 25-29, immune to diseases && aging, perfect memory of past events, etc - sure.
Otherwise, hell no. -
retoor84642dHmm, you'll see history repeating all the time. Eventually you understand everything. Nothing to learn. I dunno. If you're 400 years old, everyone will look like a kid to ya.
-
exerceo11902d@CoreFusionX What about people with a disability? They deserve a second chance at life.
-
depends completely on the specific conditions.
"immortality as long as i want (and no longer), combined with eternal youth and health" - yes.
everything else: no. -
Would I want immortality? hmm, let's see...
imagine eternal exhaustion from cancer. Or after your body is mutilated after some accident. And you living with that... forever.
Imagine being stuck in a cave for centuries. No food. No water. No light. No fresh water to drink or wash yourself. That constant itch, those germs eating you alive, those fungi growing their spores into your skin and lungs. For centuries.
Imagine a war emerging and your body being cut in half. And you left with your intestines dangling, laying in the battlefield. Left to rot or become food for scavenging animals and birds. Unable to die while eaten alive.
Naah, I'm good, thanks.
If I could also have the miraculous power to heal myself and the ability to teleport myself to places -- then sure, why not.
Otherwise... immortality can very quickly turn into a curse, a literal living hell -- all it takes is 1 mistake, 1 foot slip. -
I‘ve seen enough sci fi and fantasy where people are immortal and are suffering or tortured. That kind of traumatized me and I don‘t want immortality.
I think the absolute worst that you can do to anyone is to not let that person die. -
If it's like @D-4got10-01 said sure, but maybe a bit younger like 23
Opt out would be nice as well.
Honestly, I think you'll end up adapting to it, you'll have to.
You'll probably end up trying everything while also learning to appreciate the simple things of life.
@retoor sure you'll see things repeat, but guaranteed there we be small differences each time. Strong doubt you'll learn everything in 400 years, you'll probably get a lot better at social/psychologic interactions sure, but there will be inventions, look how fast technology is evolving, there is no (good) reason for that to slow down.
You might finally be able to master C ;P
@lensflare that's definitly an issue, you'd probably want to be a ghost, but that'll get harded as time goes on, otherwise governments will probably want to find out your secret, or harvest your blood like they do to those crab things -
Actually, there's a really cool manga/anime called a-jin which deals pretty much with this, 10/10 would recommend, but it's not for the faint of heart.
-
Just something I remembered right now. Claire Obscure: Expedition 33 is dealing with this topic.
But what actually traumatized me was the Black Mirror episode White Christmas. -

Gemini's answer XD
Ajin: Demi-Human is a Japanese manga and anime series centered around the concept of "Ajin," or demi-humans, who are immortal and can regenerate after being killed. The story follows Kei Nagai, a high school student who discovers he is an Ajin when he's hit by a truck and inexplicably comes back to life. He then becomes a fugitive, pursued by both the government and other Ajin, as governments worldwide seek to understand and utilize their unique abilities. -
iiii941514h@CoreFusionX well, yes, they are fantastic beings that can regenerate, but I don't remember the plot being about pursuing immortality or so. Maybe I just don't remember
-
No I'd get bored + complications from living forever is not worth it
Run out of memory space. Become mindless meatslab -
jestdotty641412h@CoreFusionX oh is that the thing with the cool old geezer and the skyscraper falling down
I enjoyed that
may or may not also enjoy incel school shooter rage vibe stuff. sigh damnit can't escape that connection -
@iiii
The whole thing is about how you would use immortality, and fight against what people would do to you just because you are, and they know. I don't wanna spoil, but many things that happen are not for the weak of heart. -
@jestdotty
Probably is, yeah.
Don't see why you would need to drag your incel bullshit in here.
Ajin has nothing to do with that.
Rather, think what you would do if you were subjected to what they are ...
if you could have immortality, would you do it?
question
