I'm thinking of making a Linux distro, what do you say, yay or nay?

What problem / issue does it solve?

Make it pink and use comic sans as main font.

Go for it maybe you will get a $33 Billion buyout.

Go for it! You'll learn a lot and being able to say 'ive made my own Linux distro' and it being true seems awesome to me.

Fuck linux and its monolithic kernelspace. Start at the kernel level and build your own system.

I'd say, by all means go for it. Unless you want to end up with a maintenance hell, I'd suggest borrowing one of the existing package managers though.. but then it wouldn't really be much of an "own distribution" as it is a spin of another one.. oh well.

Have you tried making a custom Linux system with self-built kernel, libc, init and shell environment already? If not, I'd highly recommend that. It's a fun weekend project, and there's some excellent instructions for it at https://github.com/MichielDerhaeg/.... Good luck and have fun! :D

Linux from scratch is a good place to start
