Gaming is starting to look like it is mimicking the movie industry. People paying new game prices for fucking reskins of old games. What a shit show. It is bad enough when movies are so formularic its just trash. But now gaming industry is doing this shit with reskins.

As always, even with new original titles or reskins or sequels. Wait for the $5 Steam sale in 5 years. If it didn't hold up and garner a community, then it was probably shit to begin with.

I almost never watch movies anymore. Filled with garbage content now. I hope hollywood dies and never comes back. Sick fucks.

Why does big gaming have to follow that stupid ass model? At least in gaming you have indies that are trying not to be absolute shit.

I've seen an increase in releases of remakes / remasters in recent years.

Originality isn't exactly sought after by the big companies.

That said, every once in a while a true gem does come along.

era of indie games will be upon us as even mainstream will wise up

then next step will be publisher / store capture -- in movie industry they captured the physical movie theaters and make it so they can't offer deals to small movies, doing "non-regulatory"-capture but capture nonetheless

let the same wars begin again

let the pirates win. I love pirates. yarrrr. pay for your bootleg cool ass indie games with crypto 🎉

honestly the whole monetary system will collapse before the video game wars will transpire I think lol

    It's actually like this.

Companies only care about profit and they've been proven time and again that their "revolutionary" vision does not align with gamers.

At least the old school gamers who have the wallet now.

They try to predate on children now, which is condemnable.

They did to us back in the time, but we had to convince our parents.

Nowadays they seem to care about children stealing their parents' cards, which is just terrible.

And since, thankfully, there are systems to prevent that, they are turning to nostalgia, in delivering what we (the ones with the money now) enjoyed. And they'll probably make a profit.

But for those of us who know, we've been experiencing their "remasters" via mods for ages.

I think the only item that deserves the "remake" moniker is FF7, tbh, which I bought (both), and is enjoyable by new gamers, and those of us who knew. (It's different, in a way that (almost) makes sense).

God of war gets an honorable mention here.

It's *not* a remake, nor a remaster. It's a brand new game, worth every penny.

    @CoreFusionX

    I am depressed.

Bethesda is going to shit fast.

    Nexusmods is now complete shit.

Getting to the point that I almost have zero interest in trying out new IP. Every FF game seems to be a nostalgia money grab. I think to myself I will go check out FFn to see if there is a sale. Always new game price. I am just so done with this crap. FF series feels like it died when they went to MMO shit. I tried ESO a few years back and decided I hate non-moddable fantasy games. I think I am to the point that if they didn't design modding in then I am not going to even give it any consideration.

I really liked FFX and FFX-2. No desire to play them now. Probably a me problem.

I was thinking of Oblivion Remastered when I wrote this. Almost nothing gameplay wise added to the game. Asking $50-$60 for it. I had already bought Morrowind and Oblivion for like $5 on sale because of nostalgia. Bethesda made like $60 Million from this. NPCs STILL fugly.

Final fantasy, for me, died such a glorious death, with FF9.

FF9 was a love card to the whole series.

Ten is acceptable (and I enjoyed the story a lot), anything after falls in the purview of the discussion.

Later on, I enjoyed FF15, and seven remake *a lot*

    Bethesda doesn't deserve that.

They still stand nowadays thanks to reselling Skyrim (which, in itself, is a *great* game), but their actions with fallout and similar, don't lend them any credibility.

In the end, you said it.

You aren't interested in new stuff.

That's probably life itself, but even then, they underestimate us as children who will ravage their parents' credit card to get the "new" call of duty, or Fortnite.

We are willing to shell the cash for a remake worth its name. Of that, I'm certain.

The countless *shitty* remasters can go to hell.

Neverwinter is something people like also (I liked pvping in the MMO but there's single players). and that other thing.. fuck. I bought it but didn't like squad combat. divinity original sin 2

the above I wasn't into but they're well made

ooo valheim. I still need to play it. gotta catch up to my friends... am such a stubborn person

oh yeah people were really into spec ops the line but I find shooters boring, and linear stories boring. it's quite adult also so that's always nice

I mean there's always dark souls and Witcher also. I got both. tbf oblivion I liked better than Skyrim. witcher is better than Skyrim I think. dark souls is a bit too different for a comparison probably

@YourMom Well game dev isn't about being passionate anymore, it's just a job by default now. Sure, we had dev mills in the old days, but we made fun of their games, not anymore. I keep hearing that non-gamers are working on games nowadays, as well

@BordedDev > 'I keep hearing that non-gamers are working on games nowadays, as well'.

True. Also the reason why we keep getting a lot of crappy games, nowadays.

@jestdotty replaying original oblivion. The attributes and better skills are more fun for some reason. I do wish it had Skyrim's crafting of weapons and armor though. There is probably a mod for that though.

I think I tried Kenshi, but the Steam 2 hours trial isn't enough time to really check things out. So I was not impressed and just refunded. I have done that with a bunch of games now. The trial used to be longer. I think I would have given it a better review if it had a longer trial.

@YourMom oooh I loooove kenshi. maybe it's just not your thing then

it's basically wild West and very theme. lots of mystery. some deceptive strategies and stuff. hilarious. but it's slow. I just love the atmosphere so the slow and nothing happens portions don't bug me. it doesn't have classical skills or anything. it's just a wasteland dystopia simulator, very subtle

we have a lot of dystopian novels but not really games TBH in retrospect. like people say it's dystopia like fallout but it's far too alive. kenshi everything is an ecosystem... like you kill a faction they gone, their raids stop, etc. someone else moves in lol... then you gotta choose your enemies wisely because your actions change the map and that might fuck something you wanted to do lol... and also politics happens. the game is so subtle ❤️
