Including all ASCII characters _and_ control characters, there's absolutely no reason to include a "space" character in our code

@deadPix3l @cmarshall10450 It could possibly be that the device that immediately receives input doesn't differentiate bytes but instead just adds the entered bits to a buffer and calls proper handlers when a specific signal is received.
