Epoch. It's the gold standard for time storage. It's the number of seconds that have passed since midnight on Jan 1, 1970.

Just make sure you use a 64 bit wide to store it. #2038

Epoch also starts at 1/1/1970 00:00:00 GMT.
Your local epoch might be in 12/31/1969 as CST is -6.
