I think this is more personal choice than anything. personally I like amd cause they tend to be faster at lower prices, I got a 2.6ghz quad core for $700 about 2 years ago. back then for an i7 you had to overclock to reach that speed. but on the reverse side if you want a msata ssd and a regular HD in a laptop you have to get intel, AFAIK intel processors are the only systems that support them at the last time I checked

Orionss28868yBy my experience with AMD, I know I won't take another one before a loooong time. For the same price, I had a CPU which was supposed to be better than a i5 4XXXK and finally I got a CPU that makes a lot of noise, makes me freeze in a lot of games. I had to change the ventirad because it was overheating. So, I would like to tell you : take an Intel
-
klonky2578yI prefer intel based laptops, i5+ is good enough. And as mentioned, the msata options is really good to have (saves you a lot of money down the road). But its all personal opinion. Although my 5y old i7 still kick most newer laptops' ass.

I personally have noticed that Intel performs better than AMD, AMD is fine for low budget systems but it overheats quickly and misses the support and compatibility that Intel has.

iRobot13678yI was thinking about hp 15 AMD 4 GB 1 TB with windows 10 which has reasonable price ..it's expandable up to 8 GB
-
@Vikram tbh, HP is a good brand, but beware the cooling issues that HP has (no matter if you chose Intel or AMD)
-
iRobot13678y@FMashiro oh ok ! So what's the best out there ? I can't trust Dell cz of their motherboard issues ..no Acer too lenovo is my second hope ..my budget is around $400
-
@Vikram I heard toshiba made some good laptops, never had one so I can't tell you if it's true or not.
$400 is a very low budget for a good development laptop. if you don't have alot just go for something cheap to start with until you can afford a decent one. other than that you might beable to grab a decent one from a rent2own store -
@Vikram I have decent experienced with acer Asus and for low end Lenovo is decent.
Personally I'd go with acer or asus -
iRobot13678yAs a dev I would like to run Eclipse and SQL developer and some other workbenches at a time with chrome running with 15+ tabs .. considering this scenario what you guys think I should opt for ?
-
@Vikram get a lot of ram, I suggest 8GB minimum as editors, mysql and browsers are really ram hungry. Also, a little bit of processing power, you don't need multi-threading so get a higher clock single or dual core
-
Depends on what you want to do. I favor AMD since I've usually got a shitload of vm's running and they crave CPU cores which Intel uses less of since they're more potent per core. The offside is that in my experience AMD has a tendency of freezing more often. If you need only one machine at a time, Intel produces nice, powerful CPUs that get the job done reliably. It's just a question of picking the right tool for the job.

Try to get a Dell Vostro 3559.
- 15 inch, 1366 x 768 Pixel
- Intel i5 6200U
- up to 16GB RAM
- ~350€ for a used one
