Worst meeting I've been in?

The one where I was told by my lead and the senior that my new colleagues were having trouble speaking to me because I'm a "strong, independent woman" and that I need to make sure I don't scare them when I approach them.

I feel like this being a kid. I code really well, atleast for my age, and almost everyone tells me 1) its not gonna work, or, 2) u should focus on scool.
Xcept 4 my IT prof, hes really cool (in case u ask, im 13)

I can relate. Started a job in a team that consisted of 80% white men above the age 40. I'm a 22 year old female. Feels like I have 17 more dads now...

@linuxer4fun Tell you what, you need to keep doing what you love and you have an awesome future ahead of you! Don't let anyone stop you, I had a lot of people discourage me when I was young and it took me until a lot later in my life to start believing in myself and actually start developing my skills.

@bananapirate I don't like to think the worst of people and perhaps they had valid criticism but this is a poor way to say that.

@grublle To be fair, I'm open to my communication style receiving critique, I know I'm not infallible :) It's more the highlighting of my gender using heavily stereotyped language that raises the heckles.

Not of the female persuasion here but I've been given similar feedback for being 'scary'.

My typical response to said nonsense is that they need to quit being scared then.

I remember a meeting when they told me to become more approachable because i always told the juniors to google it first (easy problems)haha
