For work - mac os. It's fool-proof. In my experience it's the environment you need to fight the least to get shit done.
At home - a minimal Debian setup with Awesome WM for fooling around -
C0D4669024yHome: windows
Work: windows / linux mint
Severs: linux
Being engraved with windows since 3.x days, there's not a lot you can't make windows do with the right know how, despite it becoming a pain in the ass for Dev work, although I don't write OS specific code unless I have too.
Gaming still hasn't made it on par with windows in other OS's, I do like me some AAA games though.
Servers though, unless I have absolutely no choice, I run Centos where possible.
Before the nay sayers show up, I run VM's for servers and WSL for anything I need a Linux terminal for, if I need a DE, I'll boot up a mint VM and call it a day. -
Home:
Windows basically just game and web browse
Work
Windows (it's what they gave me) with a Mint VM -
Home: ArchLinux
It offers the ability to control the OS more (than with Manjaro, which I previously used), is very lightweight and super customisable. It also is a rolling release based distro, which makes upgrades and updates a lot more manageable and smoother. And GNU/Linux distros are in general a lot better for any CompSci-y things I've done over the years.
Work: Windows 10
I work for a massive corporation, so it's a must, especially considering the MS software we use. -
I used to work on Linux, but recently I have switched to macOS.
Didn't use Windows for at least 5 years. -
windows.
because:
1. i want an OS that i work IN, not ON. (that's why not linux)
2. i want a computer which i can open and change a part for the price of that part as opposed to the price of the whole computer. also, i'm not retarded so i don't need an OS designed for retarded people. (that's why not MacOS)
3. I'm a game developer. (That's why yes windows specifically) -
At home: Linux, because I want something without hassle. I won't to deal with the unreliable and high maintenance shit that Windows has become, and I won't pay Apple's ridiculous prices.
Work: Windows. Keeping that crap afloat is other people's problem. -
@Midnight-shcode what do mean when you say “IN” and “ON”? Can you explain a bit more?

purist12024yFor gaming : Windows 10 ( I have no option for this. It is either this or you dont get to play 75% of the AAA titles )
For everything else : Xubuntu 20.04 ( slowly realizing why people make a big deal about linux being a pain in the ass sometimes , Divorced from Ubuntu 16.04 4 to 5 months ago. Xubuntu is fast as light, but the bootup is fucked up due to the dual boot with windows so it takes 5 mins to boot xubuntu up )
Work : Windows on a server over vmware. ( Cant get worse than this )
Work server : unix ( server access from another server over vmware. Needless to say it is blazing fast ) -
Work: win10
Personal laptop: Ubuntu.. it’s stable and fewer Nerv wrecking complications than other distros. -
@Benedikt how’s gaming going? Latest Linus tech tips video about Linux gaming looked promising..
-
@just8littleBit Really good, actually. There are more and more games that come out with native Linux support (that's not shit) and Wine has become really awesome since Valve supports it via Proton. Proton itself is so easy to use with Steam that a five-years-old could set it up.
I can play roughly 75% of the games without any problems. Another 15% only need some minor adjustmens which are well documented in WineDB or ProtonDB most of the time.
Gaming on Linux has improved dramatically in the last two years and continues to become even better. -
Oh, nearly forgot: Older games work even better. I have a lot that stopped working on newer Windows versions ("Compatibility mode" in Windows 10 is a joke) but works flawlessly on Linux using Wine.

10Dev28534yManjaro as my daily driver. All the benefits of Arch, (Rolling-release, AUR, deep customizability), but also friendly with most hardware and most stuff works OOTB. I mostly do freelance webdev rn, so Linux works well
-
For work (mainly developing Java) MacOS.
For pleasure (gaming, reddit, ph and general happines) Win10 -
I dont game anymore so Manjaro all the time .
for editing davinci does the job well .
P.S : I dont have enough money yet to buy a mac , Otherwise I would be using mac and linux at the same time . -
Home: Windows 10, because of gaming
Work: Windows 10, because company policy -
Daily driver: macOS (recent convert)
Gaming, editing, etc.: Windows 10
Hardcore stuff, actual work: CentOS and Fedora servers. -
An operating system (OS) is system software that manages computer hardware, software resources, and provides common services for computer programs. Operating systems are found on many devices that contain a computer – from cellular phones and video game consoles to web servers and supercomputers.

I run an operating system called "My Reality OS". In this system are a number of components that my brain hallucinates. Some of these systems have an analog to the "Universe OS". Some are purely fictional constructs that help me navigate the "Universe OS".
Many of the components I "know" about are symbolic and may not reflect what is actually in the "Universe OS". Such as body and brain. These could simply be fictional constructs to make sense of the data fed to the "My Reality OS". -
Gentoo as primary OS,
Win 10 for the rare case of gaming retro.
Gentoo is love. -
Triple14yWindows as Primary OS
I'm using windows because i'm still playing games

i'm interested in Pentesting and i like to code -

wenston02yWhen choosing an operating system for your computer, you have two primary options - Linux and Windows. Unfortunately, bUnfohavhave advantages and disadvantages, so it can be challenging tide which is best for you.
As of now, I am using Windows. Loved it
some of my friend's advised that Linux is fast OS compared to Windows.
What do you use as an operating system? And why do you use that?
