Yes! My uncle used to make cabinetry and did general carpentry contracting. Another had a rather expensive hobby of renovating and flipping homes. I miss the smell of sawdust on a work site.
-
Constantly. But while coding is hard and mana burning, it also still is fun too - and i already know how to do it...
-
Nah, but I do love to just chop shit up..
I meant the bad wood for the fireplace..not people..though if coronashit continues, might start chopping up them too... :/ -
adante2714yCurious whether the OP means in a mongo-db-is-web-scale way, or a unabomber way. Why not both I guess..

I'm gonna open a meadery.... I'm not saying its zen, but it's more creative and I'm making something people - not machines - will enjoy. And I won't be killing myself to make someone else money

Waiting for someone to say "I would if I worked with PHP"
...in all seriousness though, nah. I enjoy what I do and it's much better paid than doing woodworking. -
No me...
I'm a cnc operator (metal worker)
But the cnc I'm making will work only wood anyway :p -
Btw... Today we need more the old jobs then devs...
There are less and less wood workers, builders and plummers and people are paying premium to hire one -
-
@IntrusionCM
Well, higher payments
Physical work with less stress.
Way less responsibilities...
And when a client needs a new floor it requests a professional that can do a wood floor, not a master NASA engenheir... -
@GyroGearloose okay... That's news to me.
Here in Germany the "Handwerk" (handcraft? Skilled crafts and trades?) is dying. Small companies going bankrupt and so on. -
Yep, everywhere... We do our own repairs at home because a plummer can go up to 40€ per hour....
While the new generations all turn to teck, thers less specialized work in areas that most people don't understand how important they are...
Like, for each engenheir in a building you need 10 to 20 construction workers...
In my country is worst then Germany and North Europe, most bosses in Portugal have a mentality 70 years behind.... Want to pay miminum wage (550€) for specialized jobs... In my own profession (cnc operator) I would get like 50% more 10 years ago...
I'm considering moving to north Europe in a few years if I don't find a wife (getting old), just need more experience then I'll emigrate and earn 3x or 5x more...
Like I'm getting 700€ at best, and didn't got picked for a few jobs because that's the minimum I acept...
It's degrading, I could get almost the same in cleaning with less responsability
